Read by Lori Petty

Bounty hunter Stephanie Plum is back, packing a whole lot of attitude. This time around, she's on the trail of Kenny Mancuso, a boy from the working-class burg of Trenton, New Jersey, who has just shot his best friend. Fresh out of the Army and suspiciously wealthy, Mancuso's also distantly related to Joe Morelli, a vice cop with questionable ethics, a libido in permanent overdrive, and a habit of horning in on Stephanie's investigations.

First Janet Evanovich book I’ve read and I liked the story and the reader!

  • Lorin DePinto

I love the Stephanie Plum series and Janet Evanovich is such a great writer!

Usual Janet stuff - did not care for the narrator. The narrator from the later books is much better. Fun read tho!

I enjoyed the content. I love Janet Evanovich books. I did not care for the reader. I did not like how the character's voices were portrayed and I didn't feel like there was emotion behind the reading. I love Loreli King's character voices. After hearing her, it's disappointing to hear the Stephanie Plum novels read by other artists.

Not a fan of abridged books, but so far the Evanovich novels are entertaining. Will continue to rent...

I have read all the books in the series and just started listening to the books. Unfortunately, I received High Five first which was plagued by horrible narration. In comparison, this audio version was outstanding. I think her Ranger sounded more Mexican than Cuban, but I could overlook that. If you like the book, you will like this audiobook.

I've listened to several Plum novels and I was not impressed by the narrator. Her voice was very hard to distinguish between characters. Great story though.

First of all, it's abridged... don't get me started on that. But I like the series, so I thought I'd give this a listen. Unfortunately, I didn't make it through the first disc. Lori Petty, whom I like as an actor, is a really terrible reader. Stephanie Plum is a great, quirky character, and she's the first-person narrator of the story. But Petty has no "reading rhythm" at all, and certainly doesn't sound like she "is" Stephanie Plum. I'll wait for the unabridged version, read by Lorelei King, who also reads Evanovich's Jamie Swift series.

The story was difficult to follow because of the reader. The story was read so fast I had trouble following it. I do not recommend this book the way it is presented. I could not complete the story because it was so difficult to follow.

After listening to Book 5 and Book 9, I had high hopes for Book 2, but I wasn't impressed. Maybe it was because this was the abridged version and so a lot of the story seemed to be missing. Don't think I will select abridged again from this author.
