Summary
Set in London of the 1660s and of the early twenty-first century, The Weight of Ink is the interwoven tale of two women of remarkable intellect: Ester Velasquez, an emigrant from Amsterdam who is permitted to scribe for a blind rabbi, just before the plague hits the city; and Helen Watt, an ailing historian with a love of Jewish history.

As the novel opens, Helen has been summoned by a former student to view a cache of seventeenth-century Jewish documents newly discovered in his home during a renovation. Enlisting the help of Aaron Levy, an American graduate student as impatient as he is charming, and in a race with another fast-moving team of historians, Helen embarks on one last project: to determine the identity of the documents' scribe, the elusive 'Aleph.'

Electrifying and ambitious, sweeping in scope and intimate in tone, The Weight of Ink is a sophisticated work of historical fiction about women separated by centuries, and the choices and sacrifices they must make in order reconcile the life of the heart and mind.

This isn't a quick and easy audiobook, the story is complex and multifaceted with multiple characters highlighted throughout. The narrator's performance is lovely and her ability to convey the thoughts and emotions of both young and old, male and female characters only adds to the depth of the story.

gave only 2 stars mainly because I don't think the book a proper fit for "Christian Fiction".

If you are not into philosophy this book isn't for you. The story line is ok but it can get slow in places. I liked the narrator.

This was a lovely read. As previous reviewers have indicated, it is not a fast book, but it is filled with insight and charm. I definitely recommend it.

Alternated between reading the text and listening to the audio-book, and the latter REALLY made this work come alive. An intricate, meaty well-told tale greatly enhanced by a gifted reader. The last 200 pages (5 hours) are especially thrilling-- compelling narrative, vibrant characters, substantive and important ideas!

I loved the story and the writing. The narrator could have done better with her American accent and Hebrew pronunciations.

Unfortunately while the story was quite good I found the quality of the audio less so.
