In the ruins of civilization, a young girl's kindness and capacity for love will either save humanity -- or wipe it out in this USA Today bestselling thriller Joss Whedon calls 'heartfelt, remorseless, and painfully human.'

Melanie is a very special girl. Dr Caldwell calls her 'our little genius.'

Every morning, Melanie waits in her cell to be collected for class. When they come for her, Sergeant keeps his gun pointed at her while two of his people strap her into the wheelchair. She thinks they don't like her. She jokes that she won't bite, but they don't laugh.

I throughly enjoyed this book. A very interesting twist to the "zombie" affliction. There was good character development, struggle, strive, and the perfect amount of gruesome tidbits. I was very pleased with the ending.

I really liked this and recommend 'The Boy on the Bridge," which is the prequel to the first book. I like the creative twist of the zombification being caused by a fungus, which seems strangely believable...more story line with the Junkers would be interesting, although maybe there will be some of that in "The Boy on the Bridge, " which I just started. Also liked a story line that kept me guessing throughout....great book!

Good book, surprise ending! Loved the narration. This was my first book in Audiobooks; hoping it's a good sign.

I really enjoyed this book, beginning to end. I was surprised to see that folks thought the middle was slow going. I thought it was well put together and the revealing of more story as it went along was well done. I don't usually go for the post-apocalyptic stuff but I thoroughly enjoyed this thought provoking listen.

The beginning is wonderful! Such a good lead up. And the end was wonderful. However the middle was a little boring.

The book's beginning was awesome. I love these types of post-apocalyptic stories. The story lost some steam in the middle. The ending was interesting and helped to tie everything together. The narrator was AMAZING!

Lovely unique book... I got this book out of desperation to have an audiobook out in a dead zone. Limited internet connection I had to pick something and quickly download it to my phone. I loved the narrator. She was able to make each character its own and the story was rich and interesting. Give it a shot you'll enjoy it a lot. I am an avid SciFi reader, and all around Nerd who would love to read more from this author.

Didn't have any expectations going in as I was only told it was my kind of book, had no idea what it was about. I loved it. It's not often I'm surprised by a book and I thought I had this one all figured out. I was completely wrong. Great twist, great writing, and a great narrator.

This was a great book but the narrator is what really made it fun to listen while I do my daily walk. Can't wait to finish it !!!

Not at all what I expected. I loved this book from the very first page. I only wish their was a second book to continue the story.

I’m not much good at writing ratings for books I read or listen to as I’m pretty selective about what I look for to start with. I enjoy books that smell of Dystopian or fantasy and science fiction. I usually like it to be of military nature. This book has all the ingredients. I enjoyed it immensely. I wondered how the author was going to pull things together to conclude the book. Needles to say I didn’t see it coming.

Wow. Just, wow. I don't remember the last time I was surprised by a book. This had all the excitement of a good, gobble-it-up pleasure read but with a depth that almost never exists in the same book.

Good book but weird. Not what I expected. I actually loved the ending!

Great book. A new and unexpected spin on zombie apocalypse. Loved the narration.

It's another zombie book. Paces well, but be forewarned that it's another zombie book. The main 'villain' character is kinda cartoonish at parts, but it had an interesting premise. Narrated very well.

Great story, good plot and character development, well written and excellent narration. The only thing missing was a little comic relief now and then. Well worth your time.

Fantastic story, a great new take on a common trope. Narration was excellent and did a good job of putting emotion into the telling.

This book was a refreshingly different approach to the tired zombie apocalypse concept. It combined well researched scientific wonder with an exciting story line and down to earth characters. I highly recommend for sci-fi and horror lovers!

It's like Matilda but with zombies. It's one of those books that you don't want to end but can't put down. Amazing. Really really loved it
