“Bloody good.” —The New York Times

“Timely, surprising, emotionally alive, this is about as good as suspense fiction gets.” —Washington Post

No one knew they were together. Now one of them is dead.

Ciara and Oliver meet in a Dublin supermarket queue, just as COVID-19 begins creeping across Ireland. A spark. A chance. A distraction—from everything they’re trying to outrun.

With lockdown looming, Oliver suggests they move in together. For Ciara, it feels like a rare opportunity to let a relationship bloom in total privacy. For Oliver, it’s the perfect way to keep his past—and his true nature—hidden.

TODAY

Detectives force their way into Oliver’s apartment and find a body decomposing inside.

As they untangle a relationship built on secrets and half-truths, they face the ultimate question: Did lockdown give birth to love—or the perfect murder?

I can't even begin to describe how I think I'm a very good at understanding how things are going to turn out and what characters are going to do and then being continually surprised throughout this novel was a delight. I mean it kept me guessing constantly and I loved the time play. It was just brilliantly constructed and not difficult to follow despite the time play. I'm going to be looking for more from this author.

I totally enjoyed this book! There were constant twists and revelations that kept me engaged, and the Irish brogue added much dimension to the characters. I definitely give it 5 stars...the screen recorded only one because I wasn't quick enough. Setting the story in the midst of the COVID pandemic gave it something to which the reader could relate, and certainly added to the story line. Juxtaposing the past and present events, as well as adding the point of view of each character to each event was a very unique method of weaving the plot together.

I loved this book! Lots of twists…keeps you guessing.

Glad it was a free VIP download. The twist at the end was good, but the book was rather average until then. Having the story take place during COVID lockdown was also a bad decision, since who wants to remember those days. I like the VIP rewards since I use it to venture out to new authors, but I will not try another book by this author.

Constant surprises!!

Profile Avatar Anonymous Jul 2024

Other than reliving the pandemic, it was a twisty read! I enjoyed both the book and the Irish narrator!

I liked this book enough to read it twice and looking forward to reading it again at some point. The story sneaks up on you.

Book was good. The ending felt rushed though. Still had unanswered questions, which I guess as a reader you can figure it out… but still

An interesting pandemic era thriller

Profile Avatar Christin T. May 2025

Twist after twist. It was trippy having the book set during Covid shutdown. Felt more real.

Profile Avatar Shelby G. Jan 2025

Too many jumps and twists for my liking.

Profile Avatar Lauren E Oct 2024

A good listen that kept you guessing. Worth the credit. Narration was excellent.

got it free as a VIP and was pleasantly surprised.

You know what, this wasn't that bad. I like the jumps between time skips and the twist at the end.

Profile Avatar Monique M. Aug 2024

Recommended book, with interesting and unexpected twists.

Somewhat tepetirive

Profile Avatar Anonymous Aug 2024

My first pandemic book. Not sure how I felt about it. Meh

Profile Avatar Angie Z. Aug 2024

I liked this book but it didn’t blow me away as I had hoped. It’s clever. There is a lot of character and story building. It doesn’t all come together until the end of course. The ending didn’t convince me.

Normally, I have a difficult time following things auditorily. Not with this book though. I was easily engaged and able to follow along well while immersing myself in other daily tasks like cleaning. Good plot twist and love the accents.

Profile Avatar TheGretch Jul 2024

Very enjoyable…love the accent of the narrator.

I felt like I was stuck in the movie Groundhog Day experiencing the same story over and over and learning a tiny something each round. It felt like we went more than 56 rounds to get to the ending. I found it to be overstated and just not my type of book. I was bored.

Profile Avatar Pam B. Jul 2024

The book was very current and contemporary. Loved all the twists and turns she provides in the story. Keeps you guessing… well done . I would recommend it.

I chose this book from a long list of free VIP titles. I sure am glad I did! I listened to all 10h39m in 2 days! The narrator did an awesome job! I will look for other books she has narrated for! I loved The Trap by the same author and narrator! The storyline is gripping and held my interest all the way until the end! The characters were compelling and engaging! I loved the little twists that snuck up on you! The content is heavily laced with Covid references, but not in a preachy or political way. As I was listening I was thinking how sci-fi the whole pandemic sounded! I wonder, in 20 years anyone listening to this audiobook will think this is fiction but those of us who lived through it will know better!! The author did a great job describing what Ireland went through during the lockdown!

Loved this book so much. Great story and characters

Profile Avatar Ann M L. Mar 2022

This was a good story but the back and forth was very very confusing. I rewound a gazillion times it took me forever to finish. I stopped reading it round one. Then went back to it to try to read it again.

Profile Avatar Colleen R. Mar 2022

This was so good! Mystery? So many in one book! Suspense? Yep, lots and lots. A shocking revelation that brings it all together? That, too. The writer expertly wove an intricately detailed story.

Profile Avatar LaRhonda C. Feb 2022

I want to delete this book

Profile Avatar Linda M. Jan 2022

This was one of the best "listens" I have had in a long time. A really excellent thriller/mystery in which the reader is taken down the wrong path throughout and when everything is reversed, suddenly, it truly is a surprise. Very good writing with excellent narration. This novel was named one of the Twenty Best Thrillers of 2021, and I think that it fully deserved to be included in that list. I strongly recommend it.

Profile Avatar Dana M. Dec 2021

Being for the mid-west, United States, at times I found the narrator very difficult to understand. I enjoyed the story as it is recent and relevant.
