Everything and more that I've felt while communicating with men for a lifetime but never put it into perspective. A must read for everyone. Truly informative and educational.
Another reviewer said that they felt it was "Man Bashing", I'm a man and I didn't find it man bashing at all. It seemed to be the rosetta stone for how men and women look at the same conversation and how to interpret each other. I found it very insightful. And I swear, I've had everyone of those arguments in the program with my wife! lol
is okay. however seems to be more focus on couples and i happen to be single. overall, i got a few tips that i will keep in mind when dealing with this difficult world of man
Dr. Tannen hit the nail on the head in many cases -- men and women do communicate in different ways. Her illustrations are accurate, if somewhat insulting. While it is great to hear the ways in which we communicate differently, what is missing (and what I need) is how to overcome communication obstacles. I get that we approach life from different perspectives. Tell me how to bridge that gap.
I've owned this book for 6 or 7 years now and I've re-read it several times over. The book is terrific, however, the audiobook is not. It's basically an overview of the book. Two CDs couldn't possibly convey the information contained it this excellent book, and they didn't. Very disappointing. Please, if you are interested in learning why men and women have very different conversational styles, do yourself a favor and skip the audiobook! Buy the book instead, it will greatly improve your relationships with the opposite sex.
Deborah lays into the men out there -- they're a bunch of Cro-Magnon idiots, apparently. There is some helpful insight here, but spoken from WAY over to one side of the fence. Try being a little more even-handed next time.
I agree with the reviewer that said the reader sounded bored. This was very basic info and I stopped listening after the first cd.
Deborah Tannen helps to resolve the mysteries between female and male type of communication. It not only helped me to figure out relationship misunderstandings, but empowered me professionally. The presentation was crisp and professional with enough examples to make the issue clear to the listener. I suggested that book to my female co-workers, it is one of the many tools women need to move up in the professional world.
The topic was good but the presentation was not engaging. The speaker was boring in her presentation of the issues and left me loosing my concentration. I often had to rewind to hear what was her point. I think if someone else was presenting the book, made it more engaging and not so monotoned, then the subject would be more effective and interesting.
I felt this book was very one sided towards woman (and I'm a woman) - I related more to the mans side - I think the author sounded bored and the book was not with it.
just a lot of information. nothing that important. I would not want to listen to it again
It's a quick listen and does provide some understanding of the opposite sex. Not all the examples pertained to me but there were enough that I think it's worth listening too. I even discussed what I learned with my husband we had a nice discussion. I liked it!
This book had a few examples of how differently men and women talk and listen but overall, it was short and a little boring
