Unabridged Audiobook
A twisty plot be with complex, believable characters. Always a joy to find non-heterosexual characters in key roles who just happen to be gay rather than being featured because their sexuality is problematic. The lead detective and his female sidekick are both appealing and the author depicts the casual racism and sexism the non-white detective has to deal with as a background to her work. This gives the novel a refreshing contemporary feel. It is the second in a series and although I enjoyed it without having read the first, there are references to what has gone before. And the ending, whilst bringing the main case to its conclusion, leaves open questions which lead into the next in series. Masterful writing and narration.
