Lovely descriptions, well developed characters, entertaining of plots and sub plots worked well! I enjoyed it all.
Most of the book was really enticing, but the combination of the first narrator’s voice and a drawn out description made the first part difficult for us to stay awake during.
It took me quite a while to get interested in the story, though there were great parts here and there. For me the main problem was the initial reader -- I really disliked her style: she seemed too phony, stylized, stilted, and pompous. Sorry Tina, but I really did not like your work on this one. I've never read Alice Hoffman and not sure I ever will based on this. The other two narrators were fine.
God book and interesting story.
This historic fictional about the parents of arts Camille Pissarro held my attention. Particularly interesting to me was the history of the Jews, their migration to the island and their community during the 1800s.
I had a hard time getting into this one. I found the first narrator distracting. I am glad I stuck with it - good story and characters.
Wonderfully told story. Enjoyed Hoffman's characters and was engrossed from the start
Got a little tedious Interesting historical topic. Enjoyed most of it
Beautifully written and narrated. I loved this book and would recommend it to lovers of Alice Hoffman it is one of her best!!
