The New York Times bestseller and “horror masterpiece” (NPR) from Stephen Graham Jones—the master of modern horror—is a chilling historical horror novel tracing the life of a vampire who haunts the fields of the Blackfeet reservation looking for justice.

“Jones has written his Interview with the Indigenous Vampire. A landmark of horror and historical fiction alike, perhaps the closest thing we have to horror’s Moby-Dick.” —Vulture

“Inventive and spine-tingling…a master class in voice. Queasy, uneasy, The Buffalo Hunter Hunter plays with the interplay between religion and historical guilt, identity and appetite.” —The Washington Post

A diary, written in 1912 by a Lutheran pastor is discovered within a wall. What it unveils is a slow massacre, a chain of events that go back to 217 Blackfeet dead in the snow. Told in transcribed interviews by a Blackfeet named Good Stab, who shares the narrative of his peculiar life over a series of confessional visits. This is an American Indian revenge story written by one of the new masters of horror, Stephen Graham Jones.

I rate this book one star not for poor writing - this is the third of this author's books I've read, and most well-written by far, emulating the best of Stoker and bringing an original setting and plot to it. in terms of narration, it gets all five stars as well - some of the best audiobook production I've listened to. Rather, I give it one star because in this book's world, the only evil is that done to one's own people or culture, and any action taken in revenge, no matter how heinous or tortuous or how much collateral damage may be caused by it, is justified. Woke and based in critical theory. A shame, it had great potential to be the best vampire book since Dracula.

Really enjoyed the book! I felt the book works excellently in an audiobook format as the story includes many aspects that I feel really benefit from a narrator.

A little slow at times and very brutal. The ending was great. I recommend

It took a bit to get into, but once we were into the meat of the story it was hard to put down. Good Stab 's narrator is wonderful.

Fantastic, the narrators were great and immersive. Loved the way vampirism worked in this story and how it led to choices characters made

Compelling historical horror grappling with the bloody history of the American frontier, this is Stephen Graham Jones in top form.

Brilliant, superb and brutal. The life of this books stands alone and it feels like a real experience right off the pages of the novel. Second best book to come out this year after Sunrise on the Reaping. Two must haves in every personal library of 2025 and beyond. Thank you Graham Jones and Good Stab for your confession. Also, after I finished this book the cover art made a huge impact on me on many levels. Great choices Mr Jones at every point in the creation of this masterpiece.
