Summary
Harkening to Agatha Christie’s classic And Then There Were None, this high-tension thriller follows five couples trapped on a storm-swept island as a killer stalks among them—from Ruth Ware, the New York Times bestselling author who “is turning out to be as ingenious and indefatigable as the Queen of Crime” (The Washington Post).

Lyla is in a bit of a rut. Her post-doctoral research has fizzled out, she’s pretty sure they won’t extend her contract, and things with her boyfriend, Nico, an aspiring actor, aren’t going great. When the opportunity arises for Nico to join the cast of a new reality TV show, One Perfect Couple, she agrees to try out with him.

A whirlwind audition process later, Lyla finds herself whisked off to a tropical paradise with Nico, boating through the Indian Ocean towards Ever After Island, where the two of them will compete against four other couples—Bayer and Angel, Dan and Santana, Joel and Romi, and Conor and Zana—in order to win a cash prize.

But not long after they arrive on the deserted island, things start to go wrong. After the first challenge leaves everyone rattled and angry, an overnight storm takes matters from bad to worse. Cut off from the mainland by miles of ocean, deprived of their phones, and unable to contact the crew that brought them there, the group must band together for survival. As tensions run high and fresh water runs low, Lyla finds that this game show is all too real—and the stakes are life or death.

Ruth Ware is one of my favorite go to Authors for Audio books. This book plays out like a movie plot. Couldn’t stop listening! Imogen Church is on of my favorite narrators but the way she said insulin almost killed me lol

Edge of my seat. The narrator is incredible - one of the best I have ever heard. This story is a twister, I loved it

While I do like Imogen Church, her alternate voices in the book are so annoyingly whiney. I could not stand it. But more annoying....the word is in-SU-lin ( insulin) NOT inshulin!!!!! what the heck!? Just is not Ruth Wares best or that of Imogen Church

Plot idea was very good with an unexpected twist. Dialogue was too melodramatic, with an excess of repetitive thoughts. Narrator is very skilled, but narration would have been improved by the addition of one or two additional voices. Voice of main character Lila was irritatingly whiny.

Ruth Ware always delivers on a great mystery and story. Imogene Church is one of the best narrators out there!

Average book, some suspense but didn't really get into the plot as much as other Ruth Ware books. Kindof fell flat. Liked the characters and learning more about them. Agree with other posters about how Imogen pronounced insulin as inshulin for one character. What!? Why!? No one pronounces it like that, accent or not. Found that annoying and unnecessary.

Aside from the pronunciation of insulin, it was really good kind of disappointing in the ending.

The plot was tedious and just not believable. Disappointing book.
