Oh, this book was a delight! I love Penny, this is how you write a real strong woman! She is smart, dedicated and strong-willed, but she also has her spectacles slipping off her nose.\r\n\r\nThe mystery was truly fascinating and the sense of place and time was really well-done, particularly in the way in which Penny\'s independence is remarked by others almost constantly and never in an admiring way :P\r\n\r\nThis time the mystery comes hand in hand with a serial killer and Penny is right in the middle of it from the beginning of the investigation. She is still working close to Inspector James Blakely from whom she might be feeling something more than friendship. Sadly, there is a future Mrs Blakely in James\' life, so nothing can come from it.\r\n\r\nI liked the mystery, it was very well done. But I also liked the social commentary that keeps going all through the book and the main arc about Penny\'s father. This last has some more \'screen-time in this book, and yes, I understand why Penny is distraught about what she found in her father\'s diary.\r\n\r\nOh, and I really like Penny\'s sister, too. Yes, even when she is always nagging her to get a husband :P\r\n\r\nThat said, the mystery is no laughing matter. Family expectations, greed and intrigue are at the root of all the murders in this one, and it becomes quite dark by the end.\r\n\r\nI found it funny that the final reveal was done in a very Poirot way, with all the suspects assembled and all their sins exposed in a very thorough way.\r\n\r\nAnd the list of books mentioned at the end as research material? They have made my TBR even longer *headdesk*\r\n\r\nThis is a wonderful series, and Gabrielle Baker\'s narration is simply wonderful!
