Summary
'Whether this is the listener's first or fiftieth In Death story, they're guaranteed an enjoyable listening experience.'-AudioFile on Abandoned in Death

Homicide detective Eve Dallas must untangle a twisted family history while a hostage’s life hangs in the balance—in the new In Death novel by New York Times bestselling author J. D. Robb.

The woman’s body was found in the early morning, on a bench in a New York City playground. She was clean, her hair neatly arranged, her makeup carefully applied. But other things were very wrong—like the tattoo and piercings, clearly new. The clothes, decades out of date. The fatal wound hidden beneath a ribbon around her neck. And the note: Bad Mommy, written in crayon as if by a child.

Eve Dallas turns to the department’s top profiler, who confirms what seems obvious to Eve: They’re dealing with a killer whose childhood involved some sort of trauma—a situation Eve is all too familiar with herself. Yet the clues suggest a perpetrator who’d be roughly sixty years old, and there are no records of old crimes with a similar MO. What was the trigger that apparently reopened such an old wound and sent someone over the edge?

When Eve discovers that other young women—who physically resemble the first victim—have vanished, the clock starts ticking louder. But to solve this case she will need to find her way into a hidden place of dim light and concrete, into the distant past, and into the cold depths of a shattered mind.

I have read or listened to every one of the In Death books and loved everyone. Always disappointed when it is over. I waited anxiously for the release of this one but unfortunately it felt like someone else wrote it. Less time spent with the characters I love. The story dragged and I was glad when it was over. Very disappointed in Forgotten in Death.

Im going to say, this book was a bit predictable as far as the story went BUT not the way it unfolded to me. That does NOT make it a bad book. There were and are small clues that make the bigger picture. It was very enjoyable. ***ANNOYED VENT*** For the ones complaining about graphic "nasty language", Dont listen. ALL of the books touch on subjects not fit for your "pure minds". This is a series for mature minded adults, not puritans. Sex, profanity, murder, and violence are in EVERY story. Choose something else. The author isnt changing for you. For the "readers" who are complaining about the quality of this story in comparison to her earlier stories, may I remind you the author is a human writing under contract. 2 books per year (for this series alone) which is more than some of you are able to do. Show some respect to the artist and her craft. The narrator is also the same one from the beginning. Voices change as we age but she still does an amazing job hands down. Im a long time listener and I bet some of you cant even tell when she has performed while sick. Again, its easy to be critical when YOU are the one listening NOT performing or writing the story. Show some respect.

J D Robb continues to deliver. Great descriptions I could visualize every scene. I was able to figure out the villain. Yet her reveal and the steps taken were worth the listen. I wasn't thrilled with the narration though, I had difficulty discerning who said what in conversations held between more than 2 characters.

I've listened to all 55 of the books in this series and while this one wasn't the best it was entertaining. I wish there would have been more storyline with the main characters like Roake Peabody Mcnabb ect. but maybe next book will have that. Like always Susan Ericksen is one of the best narrators ever!

Very disappointed. I've read every single book and while formulaic, Robb managed to make every one interesting. This time she just phoned it in. Boring, flat and no suspence. Where are the unexplored room of Roarke's house? Where are the girl groups that cause Eve so much angst? Why is Roarke just a sidekick instead of a vibrant character in his own right? Maybe it's time that Dallas move to LA.
