Summary:

John Burleys The Absence of Mercy is a harrowing tale of suspense involving a brutal murder and dark secrets that lie beneath the surface of a placid, tight-knit Midwestern town.

When a brutally murdered teenager is discovered in the woods surrounding a small Ohio town, Dr. Ben Stevenson, the towns medical examiner, must decide if hes willing to put his familys life in danger to uncover the truth. Finding himself pulled deeper into an investigation with devastating consequences, he discovers shocking information that will shatter his quiet community, and force him to confront a haunting truth.

With its eerie portrait of suburban life and nerve-fraying plot twists, The Absence of Mercy is domestic drama at its best for fans of Harlan Coben, Laura Lippman, Jennifer McMahon, and Lisa Gardner.

Great story line and great twists. I personally find the story got a bit drab and slow; focusing on too many specifics, but overall good read.

It was slower paced than what I was expecting. I guessed early on who the killer was so I wasn't surprised when it was revealed. It didn't become interesting for me until the end once the killer was revealed. I felt that the story picked up in pace once that was exposed. Not a bad listen. I think others will enjoy it, however it just didn't quite feed my appetite for suspense. I was looking for edge of my seat but maybe for other listeners it will be?

I thoroughly enjoyed the Absence of Mercy. Edge of my seat most of the time. Great story, great narration.
