Ever a fan of Eliot's prose. I do feel a little disappointed with the lack of agency her female characters seem to have in thus novel, but I think overtime Eliot renders a subtle feminist critique. I'm always amazed with the way Eliot threads the needle, making insignificant bystanders pivotal anecdotes, the way she can turn and reiterate a phrase and capture panoramas of an entire community of people.
