An interesting creative amalgamation by the author blending futuristic space travel with elements of a culture reminiscent of the pioneer days of hunting, the Roman Empire of bath houses and warriors, communities similar hierarchy of warring clans of Scotland, but with better housing of the current era and much more sophisticated medical developments like those from Star Trek. Lise is a journalist/columnist at a crossroads in her career. Faced with a six month off planet assignment to a distant planet called Mitra with little choice but to go, she negotiates to take her cat, Nugget, with her. The assignment is to report about the equivalent of mail order brides to Mitran males in order to rebuild their declining population due to the lack of females. Upon arriving, Lise finds things aren't going as expected in the particular Thrail she's been assigned to despite the successes of other Thrails. Being shadowed by a flying camera( in my mind I pictured a flying Magic 8 Ball from my youth that you shook to get an answer to your question) to record her interactions with the planet's inhabitants isn't high on Lise's things she loves about her assignment, and she anticipates it will interfere with making connections making her more like an anthropologistic observer. Adrik is the Warlord leader of the Thrail not too keen on Lise's presence, however he gratefully accepts the added military supports gifted in exchange for her residing with them. He has more than enough issues occupying his mind concerning the well being of inhabitants of the Thrail. A chance encounter between them as Lise first arrives sets off a connection neither was looking for. Eric Michael Summerer's voice perfectly fit the persona of my imagination of an Alien Warlord. Dani California does an excellent job of bringing the character of Lise to life. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to the audio book Adrik's Desire so much that I listened to it a second time and can't think of a negative thing to say.

One more incredibly good addiction to the series. Lise is a journalist assigned to Mitra ,as she arrives her cat(that she refused to left behind) runs scared and is saved by the warlord. There's an instant connection between Lisa and Adrik but he's stoic and proud and she's to stay only 6 months. Add to that a misterious illness afecting human females and war in the horizont. Well written, a heart melting plot ,good world building and characters that steal your heart from the very beginning. The narrator did a gripping narration,adding depht and intensity to the story.
