The Aeneid

Abridged Audiobook

Publisher: HighBridge Company

Date: January 2010

Duration: 9 hours 17 minutes

Profoundly poetic yet gloriously accessible, this audio recording is the best way to experience a work that has remained a centerpiece of Western civilization for 2,000 years. Fitzgerald's rendering speaks directly to the modern listener, inviting us to share the excitement, adventure, and human tears as Aeneas, the warrior hero, escapes from the burning city of Troy, embarks on a long and perilous journey, and eventually, triumphantly establishes a new nation: Rome.

I have never read a book so thought out, intricate, and intriguing.

This was a very good as read from the original story. It is the story of the Trojans who sailed to Italy after the fall of Troy to found Rome. It fills in a lot of the blanks after The Iliad (or "Troy" if you saw the movie) It does not get into the actual establishment of Rome. You have to have the patience to listen to an epic. This is not a Dean Koontz novel, but it is a great story!
