A nurse is killed during a night shift in a psychiatric institution on the outskirts of Stockholm. The same night, a young patient escapes from the secure unit at the hospital. Among those who are ordered to investigate the case is detective sergeant Harriet Jaatinen, who is of Finnish descent and is on sick leave from her work within the Stockholm police.
