Unabridged Audiobook
This was a great listen. The narrator is a little flat, but the story carried the experience, and I wanted too badly to know what happened next even to bother being bothered by the narration. I look for Sci-Fi, Horror, and Fantasy by authors I've never heard of specifically to find little gems like this one. It's got a good formula and balance between action and peaceful life, and nothing happened in the book that didn't feel forced in, it all felt like it belonged in the world created.
I finished this ONLY because it has a passible plot and enjoyable setting, and for my love of the franchise. The prose was not especially captivating when compared with other Alien novels (like The Cold Forge, for instance), and the narration was among the worst I've ever suffered through . This performer does NOT know how to do little girl voices! It's cringe-worthy!
Great story and narrrator was good too
I really enjoyed this one. There's good character development, and, for the most part, the story moves well. The author continues developing the theme of human - android interactions with an interesting twist. Alien: Uncivil War is a worthy addition to the Alien franchise. I agree with an earlier reviewer that the narration is a little flat, but the narrator is at his best when using different voices for each character -- truly a remarkable job. I rate both the author and narrator 4.5, which I'm rounding up to 5 stars here.
Great listen.
Great addition to the Alien universe and well narrated in equal volume throughout the book.
Loved it. Somewhat predictable as what was expected. Overall a pleasant reading experience
Loved this book I like the films based on this book and was surprised how good it was to listen to
Great read. Narrator was great as well.
The story of the universe - greed, delusions, ideas, hope - and then just the hero trying to do all the best for all the best reasons.Black and white persons but a good and interesting listen.Very good narration
Great story and well constructed Alien sequel. Bredan Deneen strikes again - am now waiting for audiobook version of his post-apocalyptic Tracer to appear in September or I may get the ebook as well. Narration was excellent.
Very entertaining novel in the extended alien universe. Loved the scenario and the narration!
this was surprisingly not bad, ultimately I enjoyed it.
I guarantee you have heard this s science fiction before. Easy to follow and the narrator did a good job!
The writing is wretched, about as subtle as the stupid title (UN-civil? Get it?) ... couldn't make it 20 minutes into this audiobook. Seriously, here're a couple examples of the prose in the first few pages: "The man's arms were outstretched as if in religious ecstasy, but there was nothing religious or ecstatic about the look on his face." "At first, it looked like some kind of black weapon had impaled him, but the end of it was swaying gently, like a tree branch in the wind ... Or a tail." And could we PLEASE do an Alien book without turning it into Ripley fanfic? Lord. I'm all for a good Alien(s) tie-in story - I loved 'Phalanx' and 'Cold Forge' -- but it was obvious early on this isn't one of those. Time's better spent reading something skillful and new.
The main character is absolutely extraordinary. The story I felt got a little boring, towards the end as they were focusing on many other characters. But overall it was very enjoyable
