Summary
The #1 New York Times bestselling author of Infected delivers medieval carnage as a pre-industrial society fights extinction at the hands of a massive infestation of Xenomorphs.

Ataegina was an isolated world of medieval castles, varied cultures, and conquests, vibrant until the demons rose and spread relentless destruction. Swarms of lethal creatures with black husks, murderous claws, barbed tails and dreaded “tooth-tongues” raged through the lowlands, killing ninety percent of the planet’s population. Terrified survivors fled to hidden mountain keeps where they eke out a meager existence. When a trio of young warriors discovers a new weapon, they see a chance to end this curse. To save humanity, the trio must fight their way to the tunnels of Black Smoke Mountain—the lair of the mythical Demon Mother.

Maybe the best sci-fi spinoff book I’ve ever read? Would have been great even if I’d never seen Alien. Such a solid narrative that isn’t overly predictable but appropriately addresses all the themes you’d hope for. Lovely!

As a longtime Alien fan I must admit that I was skeptical about this novel when I first saw it. Now I can confidently say that blew my expectations out of the water. I highly recommend to anyone who is a fan of the franchise.

I’ll admit that I nearly gave up on it very early on. I didn’t like the style, the story, the characters or the narrator! HOWEVER, after a poor start it got better quickly and then got a lot better and stayed that way. The narrator picked it up and ran with it and contributed greatly to the overall quality of the experience. Thoroughly enjoyable.

Good story but lacked credibility

Profile Avatar Stephan Lindkvist Aug 2024

The language is crude, most of the charactera are so stupid it hurts and the ones we are supposed to care about are childish, bratty and annoying. not to mention flat.and still...and still it was an interesting read that really takes hold of you.

Enjoyed this audiobook, Bronson Pinchot did a great job narrating.

This was my first Scott Sigler book and initially I did not much enjoy it, but I became increasingly drawn into the stor. In the end I really thought it was good. Generally well worth the read.

As a hard core syfy fan for many years, I thought that the story was imaginative and full of action, but I found the narration annoying. The narrator's voice for the young female protagonist was faint, wimpy, and weak, which did not fit the character at all, and the voice for one of the other major characters, who was depicted as annoying, was overdone and tacky. I feel that the personalities of the main characters could have been depicted much better/fully with other intonations/accents.

Slow to start but enjoyable overall. Narrator did a good job.

Overall, it's a great book. Nice take on the advancement of technology

This book was a big surprise. I had low expectation's, and while it isn't perfect, was a fun ride from start to finish, with a novel setting for an Alien story. The narrator does a great job, the plot is interesting, as are the characters for the most part. Definitely recommend for any alien fan, especially those sick of space stations, research labs and desolate colonies.

Great story! Props to the narrator, made the experience even better.

Had my attention from beginning to end. Well done!

I really enjoyed this book. I’m not the biggest fantasy fan but it’s nice for a change. It’s easy to follow the story, which was quite unique. The ending was a little bizarre but hey it’s fantasy. The narrator brings this story alive. He is amazing.

Profile Avatar Cookei Dec 2023

It was enjoyable worth the audio. If you enjoy all the aliens' movies, you will enjoy this book. The narrator was awesome.

great book. great narrator.

Profile Avatar Jesse C. Aug 2023

Amazingly entertaining and great characters. I’ve been looking for a fun book like this for a while. Listened to most of Brandon Sanderson’s books and a bunch of other great adventure, action, etc. books, but this one captured my interest the most.

Profile Avatar Gege M. Jul 2023

Honestly I rarely give 5 stars. But this book was so imaginative! It took a minute to get the concept, but once you understand what's going on, it hooks you! The ending makes sense to end the book, I think. But also out of this world-literally. The narration is so incredibly good, and enhanced the reading of the book!

Profile Avatar Kack T. Oct 2022

Greatest and most creative take on the aliens universe I've ever read, fits perfectly in it's own little pocket but so easily works alongside all the things that take place in the movies and so forth. reading it for the first time had me on the edge of my seat and listening to it for the second I could picture everything and loved the characters even more, it's a shame they never think to look at all the comics, books and other forms of media for the goldmine of movie making content that they are... if you want a fresh aliens experience look no further than the beauty that is aliens phalanx!

Profile Avatar Anonymous Dec 2021

Excellent, great story with good narraration!

Profile Avatar Linda R. Sep 2021

Really didn’t like this book. Was very disappointed because I liked many other books that Scott Sigler had written. Just couldn’t get into the story. The narrator didn’t help the story either. Wouldn’t recommend this book. Unless you really need a goodnight’s sleep listening to it.

Profile Avatar Niko H. Jul 2020

Well this book is one big meh! Some of the characters are so annoying, so i just could not finish the book. After 2 hours i had to stop.
