Unabridged Audiobook
Absolutely amazing and deep and vulnerable and true, and everything one would hope for in a book of this nature and full of wisdom and great lessons. It was especially rewarding to hear it read in Elizabeth Gilbert’s own voice and I could completely relate to just about everything she wrote. May the hard lessons she learned be wisdom for all who struggle with addiction.
One of the very best and fiercely honest books I’ve ever read. I cried and laughed and laughed and cried and felt captivated the whole way through. I already want to read it again! There are so many nougat’s of wisdom sprinkled throughout this book. I learned so much of how you can gracefully tell your wildly illuminating and vulnerable story while respecting all the ones that a story touches, without revealing things that might reveal people who have the right to their own story. Something I have been contemplating about my own story for almost 20 years. Getting stopped short in the places where my story is other people’s story too. Anyways, you’d have to read it to see what I’m saying… maybe. I could say so many things - but mostly that books like this save lives. It will awake the feeling intelligence of anyone who reads it and it might not be comfortable, but it will help you hold dear not only your light, but your dark too… your human ness , your unmasked self unabashedly. Enjoy, enjoy in joy - be free, be free be free. Thank you Liz, and your muse of the ever beating heart of truth.
Honest, courageous, inspiring. Speaks to the brutal truths of addictions and solutions. So damn grateful to have read this.
This book was like watching a car plunge off a cliff, followed by a train derailment, followed by a plane crash. How do people become so lost? Especially people like Elizabeth Gilbert who has the advantage of being blessed with intelligence, beauty and talent. Love Gilbert’s other work, but this book was a sad, pathetic tale of misplaced love and addiction that perhaps should have been left at the therapist’s office.
after the first few chapters, i hated it profundly. redundant and self-pitying
Great writing by one of my favorite authors and inspirational. She does a great job at depicting addiction and the energy around it. At times very depressing so had to rate this one down compared to some of my other favorites but again addiction tends be depressing so it was a very accurate account
I don’t even know how to rate/review this book. I hate to give other people’s memoirs my opinion because how can I judge what you went through in your life? On the other hand this book is so f***** up. I mean I feel for the trauma that Elizabeth and Rayya lived (and died) through but I don’t know that I needed this story in my life. In fact I probably could have lived without it. They are/were both severely damaged people. Enabling each other in their addictions. I hope that Elizabeth is on the path to recovery and that Rayya is in a better place but man, that was kind of a brutal story to read
The narration is a big part of an audiobook book. I loved it! It makes and adds to the story for sure.
A strong and vulnerable and brave and beautiful story, preciously delivered. Thank God for recovery! Earth school is crazy and survivable b
Loved the book and the rawness of it all. Very poignant, but oh so weary of the guitar chords.
