Unabridged Audiobook
I love all the James Herriot books. They are so interesting, funny and heartwarming. My favorite though, are the collection of cat stories and dog stories. I listened to them a few years ago and you will laugh and cry. They are such touching stories. This book contains one of the dog stories that made me cry all over again. I highly recommend this and all his books.
I have loved James Herriot for many years. I've read all the books multiple times, watched the entire series every year for the past five years, but there is something special about Timothy Christopher's reading that warms my heart. I have to be careful while driving and listening; this narration causes me laugh so hard I have to pull over, or makes me cry until I can't see the road. What a joy!
Excellent narrator, takes you right into the Yorkshire Dales and you feel like your watching in on the scene. Love the subtle humour and entertaining anecdotes.
Bronwyn Being a vet myself it is lovely to hear how veterinary medicine was managed in the prewar period. It was also fun to try and diagnose the problems. Well written and narrated. A wonderful glimpse of life in the Yorkshire dales
I really enjoyed this book. I drove around my neighborhood some days because I wasn't ready to turn it off.
This is a beautiful book and so extremely well read. One of my very most favorite books of all time. Even better in the listening by this wonderful reader. I think he must have been a soul mate of the writer,s
Oh yea. A must hear. Takes the novice a few minutes to get wrapped around Christopher Timothy's fine Darowby brogue but once you're in, you're totally transported and you won't be in a hurry for this to end and the 13 disks are just not enough. Unforgettable. Bought it AFTER listening to it.
I liked this book. The stories were heartwarming, if not as good as the author's other books.
James Herriot brings you back to the English Countryside with his humor, down home love of animals and vintage wit of the people of Darrowby and the surrounding farms. He laughs at himself as easily as we do along with his stories. Some bring tears and many warm your heart. These stories are difficult to share with those who cannot understand the brouge or the terms.. i.e. "Grandma, why would he put his box in his boot".. but worthwhile for young and old if you can get past that.
Very good audio book. I read the book many years ago so it was nice to listen to it this time. The reader does a great job reading.
James Herriot is one of my favorite authors. This book is funny, quaint, & poignant. It's the 2nd book in his series but it easily stands alone. The characters are richly described, unique, and come alive on the pages. If you like animals, ironic humor, & fun reading, this book is for you.
It is a delight to hear these human and caring stories told in a gentle way. They renew my faith in humankind. I look forward to the rest of the series.
