Abridged Audiobook
As always Steel is a consummate storyteller
Really enjoyed the story and the narrator was enjoyable and entertaining. Definitely a book I would listen to again.
it is an amazing book
I was disappointed with the book. I was surprised the book was on the dark side, even after the war. Once the main character got married, the daughter became a co-main character and a nasty one. It wasn't until the very end that there was any redemption. I finished the book because I was doing things around the house and listened to it. Had it been a physical book, I would not have continued it. This book says it's historical fiction, about the first half of the book is, but after that when she has her oldest child, it's just angry. Could this part happen in real life, yes, absolutely. But fiction shouldn't be so depressing. I would hear myself saying - walk away from your daughter already. I haven't read a lot of the author's books, but I remember years ago, her books would be past around to all my gal friends and we'd all say we couldn't put them down. So I was surprised this was so depressing, not only because of the war, that's certainly to be expected, but the 2nd part of the book could have been much more happy.
