Unabridged Audiobook
learned a lot i did not know.
This book is marvelous—exciting, overcoming adversity, and an insight to an unusual hero. Unfortunately, the narrator sounds like a computer, and does not give this incredible book the excitement it deserves. Nonetheless, it is still an insightful and interesting listen.
A really good read! The first half of the book was a war story. It was both entertaining and informative. The second half of the book was a human story. I appreciated both the honesty and the insight. Furthermore, it presented some solid philosophy in regards to race relations, and minding our own business while leaving others to theirs. Additional note: Pappy was an alcoholic and made no bones about it. He talked about it at every turn in the book because it was relevant to his story. He did not glorify drinking. As a recovering alcoholic myself, I valued this enormously and I will be pointing other alkies Pappy’s way for some experience, strength, and hope.
The story was entertaining and revealed some interesting facts.
Enjoyed it thoroughly
Great to hear the real side of a solider!
Very human insight on a war hero.
I've watched the TV series base upon Pappy and his unite. The Audio book was good, and pleaded overall with his story, didn't realize that he crossed paths with Louis Zamperini as a POW in Japan during WWII.
Very interesting book. Lots of information I didn't know about Boyington. The narrator tried his best to make it un-listenable.
Slow choppy writing with way too much alcohol talk. Even though Pappy was an American hero, he wasn’t an author.
