It’s while I’m standing there on the side of a Himalayan mountain, blinded by the monsoon rain, barefoot and alone that I come to the frightening realisation…. I might in fact be an idiot.

Many before me have come to these mystical lands in search of their life’s purpose. I however was primarily running from outlook, teams, spreadsheets and an overtly sad lunchroom. Life’s hamster wheel had become torture, and my average work week began smelling like something had died in suffocating proximity. So, I pivoted, straight into the humid chaos of Delhi.

I had a rough plan of going to the Himalayas, then following the iconic river Ganges before crossing into Nepal and finishing in Rajasthan. But be warned, this isn’t a pious quest. There’ll be drinking, drug taking and unplanned stupidity as a given but also fun, friendships and incredible places.

Both India and Nepal have been described as places where spiritualism is woven into life’s fabric. I’ve often pondered if my blatant cynicism and lack of any religious beliefs had left me somewhat anesthetised to life. Could visiting such culturally exotic places allow me to find my own spark and motivation? Friends, we’ll decide together.
