Summary
Raymond Bannister is a wealthy man living a secure life, but the day that he receives a single slipper in an envelope his world falls apart. He seeks out a place in the bad part of town - is he looking for his own demise? He is found slashed down in a dirty alleyway. The crime and the crime scene are inexplicable to Lestrade, and he seeks the help of his new consultant detective, Mr. Sherlock Holmes. This beginning will lead us back in time, to India, and it will lead us to the strange origin of a group of children that call themselves the Irregulars. Is the answer to this case also the answer to the big question - who is Sherlock Holmes? Meanwhile the emotions between Missy Hudson and John Watson are stirring, as a certain Mary Morstan seeks the help of Sherlock. A mysterious and cruel new player has entered the London underworld, his signature is just the letter M.

Great book! I like this one even more than ‘The Red Circle’. The first book I found a bit confusing with the all the unexplained scenario of London in the near future. After finishing the first book and gotten familiar with the characters and the ‘background’,I thoroughly enjoyed this one! Can’t wait for the next book in the series! I do hope Tim Burton would make a TV series or movies on this series, would be amazing!

maybe it's just me but I've tried 5 times by restarting the book from the beginning to get into the book and cannot, for me a total waste of my credits

The first and second book are very good! The narrator does a great job. I’ll be getting book three and look forward to it.

No sense of period or place. I was baffled. The two immortal main characters are already clearly defined and established, yet this writer somehow renders them unrecognisable - they become amorphous and dull. Quite an achievement - starting with a brilliantly conceived character, ready-made and familiar to anyone who’s ever read a detective novel (and a few million who haven’t) and inexplicably placing him in a vaguely ‘contemporary’ setting. I want to ask the author a simple question: what were you trying to do? Whatever it was, you made a horrible mess of it. It makes no sense. It doesn’t work because it’s utterly pointless. A complete failure of a novel.
