'This is a novel of international significance. Courageous, provocative, haunting, it will open our eyes' Heather Morris, author of The Tattooist of Auschwitz

In the midst of war, he found love
In the midst of darkness, he found courage
In the midst of tragedy, he found hope

What will you find from his story?

Nuri is a beekeeper; his wife, Afra, an artist. They live a simple life, rich in family and friends, in the beautiful Syrian city of Aleppo - until the unthinkable happens. When all they care for is destroyed by war, they are forced to escape.

As Nuri and Afra travel through a broken world, they must confront not only the pain of their own unspeakable loss, but dangers that would overwhelm the bravest of souls. Above all - and perhaps this is the hardest thing they face - they must journey to find each other again.

Moving, powerful, compassionate and beautifully written, The Beekeeper of Aleppo is a testament to the triumph of the human spirit. Told with deceptive simplicity, it is the kind of book that reminds us of the power of storytelling.

Excellent. Every person complaining about immigration should read this book and then look into their own soul.

Loved it. The characters came to life through her lovely descriptions. Didn’t want it to end.

I found it difficult to identify with a main character or the story which made it difficult to keep listening without commenting on the story telling in my head.It is a a dark and probably very realistic story. I finished listening to it ( it is well narrated) but it felt like homework and it somehow felt that I should finish it because if I didn't I would be like one of those people that are currently taking the streets against 'foreigners' and voting for populist politicians. It could have helped if the story was counterbalanced with the story of their life before the war. So that I would learn about who they were and what their probably mundane) life was like and what they lost.

SYRIA is the largest refugee crisis in the world, with more than 14 million Syrians displaced. I have been curious about that but I don't really enjoy reading academic books, so I turned to fictional literature about Syria. I just completed this book, and I am literally in tears. It has truly humanised and contextualised Syrian refugees to me. Beautifully written.

I so enjoyed this book! The narrator was perfect and drew me in immediately from the beginning. The story in itself was inspiring and emotional. It brings an aspect of life that makes you appreciate your own. Highly recommend!

Compelling but brilliant

Not for me. Found the story hard to follow and a little one dimensional.

So true, so compassionate, so heart-tugging. Zeroes in to perfectly written characters on the travails of forced migration exquisitely.

This a beautifully crafted and moving story. It made me cry and that's hard to do. The development of the characters Nori and Afra was excellent. The triumph of the human spirit over adversity was a reality check and made me consider why I whinge about the small stuff. The match of narrator with the story was the best experience I have had yet. His voice and intonation covered the extire range of emotions. He was a very convincing Nori.
