The Betrayal of Innocence

In the shadows of history, the tale of Joseph Aizenberg begins in 1885, as an Armenian Jew he escapes the horrors of civil war and the massacre of his people, seeking refuge in Italy. With no belongings or money, Joseph struggles to build a new life until his fate entwines with a bakery in Turin. What begins as humble work soon turns into an opportunity that could secure his place, a home and build a future for his family. But behind the doors of the Jewish Business Group discussions reveal the deadly web of politics, unease is building within the government in Italy, and more forcefully in Europe, the destructive net that will cost him everything.

In 1938, his granddaughter Ellen arrives in Italy, only to find herself in a nightmare under Mussolini’s Fascist regime. Targeted for their Jewish heritage and Joseph’s past, Ellen’s family is captured and sent on a treacherous train journey to Eastern Europe. In harrowing acts of violence, Ellen and her mother endure unspeakable horrors, before Ellen becomes the only survivor, escaping with the help of her father.

Taken in by partisans, Ellen’s only focus is vengeance. Her mind sharpened by rage. But betrayal lurks in the shadows once again, and when the group she has come to trust is slaughtered, she is left alone - her mission for revenge only growing stronger. From that moment forward, her life becomes a single, unrelenting pursuit: to hunt down those who destroyed her family, and to make them pay.

A gripping saga of survival, love, and vengeance, The Betrayal of Innocence is a haunting exploration of the lengths a person will go when consumed by loss and pain in their search for justice. An unyielding, lifelong pursuit of vengeance.
