Summary
The year is 1752. Devil, the Duke of Andover, and highwayman Jack, the Earl of Wyncham are at odds over a country squire's beautiful daughter. Cheating at cards, the marital problems of the younger sister of the Duke and the younger brother of the Earl, and debts beyond imagination form the backdrop for this romance, Heyer's first work and the only one in the public domain. Well read, but Heyer rhymes with HAY not HIGH!

A few miss pronounced words, but otherwise well read. Would rather have had someone with a British accent reading it though.

I loved the book with all the twists and turns. The narrator, whilst giving lots of expression and clear diction was, sadly, totally Wrong! Why is an American lady narrating an English story set in Southern England. There were so many, many mis-pronunciations, that it grated, Starting with Georgette Heyer’s surname. Please it is Heyer ( hayer), not higher! So many English names were mispronounced, together emphasis on wrong syllables, it took away from the whole narration. There was better pronunciation of French words and phrases. I would be happy to listen to an American story by Sibella Denton, definitely not another one set amongst the Ton in Regency England

The narrator was very irritating because of her constant mispronunciations! Eg clarey instead of claret and even the author’s name was mispronounced. An English narrator should be chosen for classic English books like this. The story was most enjoyable.

I have to agree with others. The American accent and pronunciation ruined the story. I’m not saying the narrator is bad just a wrong fit for this story. I could not continue which is a shame as this is favourite author of mine.

Good story spoilt by appalling narrator

One cannot listen to a Georgette Heyer novel with an American accent.....everything else is fine, but honestly, Regency England is unberable
