Unabridged Audiobook
The author took me to a shared experience I had a visual experience, a place little known to our modern world,
This book was incredible. Amazing to hear a first hand account of someone who was really there. The book holds your interest from first to last. Excellent narration with flawless pronunciation of German words. Would highly recommend to history buffs.
Fantastic book! Unfortunately a terrible narrator can make or break a book.. HOWEVER, This book is Read by far and away one of the best foreign language narrators in the business! Do yourself a favor and listen to this book and the other German/Russian military memoirs he has Narrated.. You will not be disappointed..
incredible book. Such an interesting perspective of the war and what the common man thought. another commenter talked about the authors lack of mention of the SS atrocities during this time but fail to realize front line troops were not always privy to what happened with the SS that followed behind them. I’d like to not that this author did an outstanding job providing his account of the war as HE saw it. not as others have portrayed it. the book stays true to its intent to only tell the facts as the author saw them. Must read as a fan of this era
Great book, excellent narration
This was my first e book, I enjoyed it.
Classic war memoir of a young German soldier caught up in the hell of the Eastern Front, starting with his baptism of fire in Stalingrad, a grueling, brutal odyssey escaping the Russian encirclement and on through the end of the war. Truly a remarkable tale of brotherhood, honor, loss, battle, disillusionment and survival.
Fascinating account of life on the Eastern Front. Well narrated and well worth a listen
it's an interesting book but as a former soldier there are several inconsistencies that just don't add up. The main one being the reason he does not mention u it names to the last one being his mention of him being confronted by a Chekosovacian with a Kalashnacov weapon
