Unabridged Audiobook
I love this whole series and cannot wait for the next book
BLOODMARKED is the second book in THE LEGENDBORN CYCLE series by Tracy Deonn. After Bree Mathews infiltrated a secret on campus society to learn the truth about her mother’s death, she discovers her own ancestral power. However, a sixteen year old African American girl is not the King that the regents of the Order want. She and her friends have to go on the run to rescue Nick Davis, the boy she loves, and escape the members of the Order and the demons who want her imprisoned or dead. This is a kissing only, first person, single POV, contemporary YA fantasy romance with tropes including the reimagining of the Arthurian legend, the Chosen One (subverted,) high stakes love triangle between the golden boy and the darker brooding boy, secret society, academia, and magic, enemies to lovers, forbidden love, found family, and rebel hero on the run. This sequel to LEGENDBORN was everything I could want it to be. The hits kept coming and there were so many twists and turns I did not anticipate. This is such an emotional journey for Bree and that comes across really well in the writing. Racism is embedded in every level of this story in a completely natural and believable way, presenting the issue and it’s impact on a imagined society while communicating the lesson of how racism impacts our own less magical world in the same ways. I love that this series provides a heroine of color that girls can identify with or empathize and learn from. This is something that is not very common in fantasy romance and very needed. I love the LGBTQIA friendly aspects of the series as well. The narrator, Joniece Abbott-Pratt, continues to perform well with various voices and emotional depth. My only caveat is that all the men sounded African American based on speech patterns and voice, despite there only being a few that were, and that she pronounced Arthur as “author” no matter which voice she was using. I was glued to this audiobook almost nonstop from beginning to end and ready to start the third book as soon as this one was finished. I recommend this audiobook for listeners who enjoy fantasy romance, Arthurian legend reimaginings, and stories with a BIPOC FMC.
One of the best book series I’ve read!
officially obsessed with this series - binged in one day
both the writing and the narrator did a amazing job I can't get enough of Tracy Deonn and hope the third book comes out soon.
Amazing story. The narrator is fantastic.
I loved the characters in this book and it was definitely more heartbreaking and complicated. Worth reading, a sequel that is better than the first!! More black characters and lore in the South, which I hope for. Listen to it.
Just like the first book, this one is similarly fantastic! The narrator has done a great job, though the Scottish accent isn't genuine, but that's easily forgivable; it doesn't take away from the story. I stayed up until 3am because I could not stop so close to the end. Absolutely recommend this! <3
