What is body language in communication?

Body language is a type of nonverbal communication that relies on body movements (such as gestures, posture, and facial expressions) to convey messages. Body language may be used consciously or unconsciously. It may accompany a verbal message or serve as a substitute for speech.

What are the types of body language?

Following are some examples of body language, and what each example communicates to other people:

• Arms crossed over the chest

• Nail biting

• Hand placed on the cheek

• Tapping or drumming the fingers

• Head tilted to one side

• Touching the nose

• Rubbing the hands together briskly

• Placing the tips of the fingers together

My low rating is based mostly on the narrator of this book. I thought it was so bad that I asked for a refund on the credit. I’m not usually that critical, however, this one was awful. The narrator mispronounced many words and slowed his rhythm when the words became too difficult for him to understand. Also, he doesn’t know how to change the inflection of his voice to let you know that it was the end of a sentence. I was confused so many times because it sounded like run-on sentences or he would almost sound like he’s putting a period in the middle of a sentence. It was very awkward. I couldn’t continue. I fast-forwarded a few times during the first hour and the author was still talking why body language is important. I was thinking OK I get it just get on with the meat and potatoes the actual topic.

With this book you can connect better with people; communicate more effectively, and get across the nonverbal information you really want to convey in a variety of situations, from giving speeches or presentations to being in a job interview. Lot's of VERY valuable information in this book; highly recommended!

Immediately after I started reading this book I began to notice the behaviors in myself and my colleagues. I think this book is more useful for reading people in social or personal situations because it is much easier to accurately read someone's body language in a purer/ more natural state.

I am still socially scared to talk with a lot of people I don't know, this book did provide insight into what certain gestures mean and what I could be portraying to people without even knowing it.

Body language can be a hard thing to learn and employ, especially if you have aspergers like I do. Learning to communicate with peers using any kind of non verbal language was hard for me until I read this book.

The material is interesting, but the illustrations and simple descriptions make the lessons learned in this book easy to remember. They also make connections to the animal kingdom or how the gesture evolved from a functional action when possible which helps me remember and feel more engaged with the material

When I make assumptions based on the book in business settings I have been wrong because so many factors could lead to the emotion that is creating the language and most of which have nothing to do with me or the current interaction. In personal settings it is spot on and can sometimes be very entertainin

This book was exactly what I was looking for. It does not go into every type of common body gesture, but definitely enough to keep you busy for a while.

It's been over four years since the first time I read this book and I still haven't memorized all the techniques but I know a lot of them by heart now. What makes it easier is if you're really interested in body language and find yourself practicing the techniques learned in this book

The best book on body language available. I've read this book three times and always pick up new insights every time. After studying this book you'll be able to read people better no doubt. Of course it takes some practice to really master the techniques you learn in this book, and you'll be a bit overwhelmed and confused at first
