The narrator did a great job. The whole story line was a bit much of "spunky lawyer comes back to save the town, everyone else is wrong, she is the only one right." "Romance drama where she tells everyone to piss off but they all still love her" I got through 75% of it and just had to bail when she starts having black out drunks and accusing everyone, but they "understand". Enough. I won't listen to this author again. Suspense and drama are two very different things.

An interesting thriller of one's past coming back to haunt them. Krysten Ritter did a great job on developing a world of mystery, corporate greed/villainy, small-town politics/ignorance. Abigail "Abby" Williams; the book's protagonist is an environmental lawyer based out of Chicago, a single 30-something with litte-to-no attachments in her life besides her job and coworkers, some empty relationships, also having some implied germaphobia issues. (Along with an estranged father back in her hometown of the fictional Barrens, In) When the plastic company (Optimal Plastics) in her hometown of Barrens is suspected of illegally dumping waste and possibly making the citizens sick. Abby's firm is sent in to investigate, though Abby herself has an ulterior motive for her former bestfriend/high school bully Kaycee Mitchell dissapeared 10 years earlier after displaying similar symptoms of the sickness that some citizens now currently have. From there on Abby navigates a place that is almost foreign to her and attempting to find the truth is a battle while protecting her sanity. there's a romantic subplot too, but I won't spoil you with that. overall a very great listen!

Good book, but story’s been done before
