Things were very different in 1922, but for some things mentioned not too much. The title of the book had me expect something else other than a book about Upton's perspective of life in many directions as in religion, science, health, politics... etc. Knowing some things about what life was like back then will make the book more enjoyable. The alcohol ban would be a good example.
