Unabridged Audiobook
It was an interesting read.
The narrator really captures the emotions of each character beautifully! The accent of the narrator also works well to create the atmosphere of the story.~ Hardcover: Overall rating: 4.6The Book of Witching fantastically combines two of my favorite genres - mystery/thriller and historical fiction. It's a chilling tale based on a true account of Allison Balfour, an alleged witch who was burned at the stake in Scotland in 1594. The story ties in with the current time when a woman is found on a beach in a coma. She wakes up claiming to be someone else while her boyfriend Arlo is dead and her friend Senna is missing. World building: An intriguing start with burnt bodies found on a beach, which leads into split narratives involving flashbacks in time and switches to the current timeframe. Writing style/ flow: Although it has a slower pace, the writing is completely atmospheric and has the rare ability to transport you into the story. Character development: Beautiful yet heartbreaking depiction of what happened to Alison Balfour, as well as her husband and children Edward & Beatrice. I also enjoyed the side characters of Clem and her daughter, Erin, and other complex characters such as Senna and her mother Stephanie. Plot: I truly enjoyed the story, but I feel like the ending was rushed and it left me with some remaining questions:*** Possible spoiler alert***1) What happened to Nyx?2) Was Clem ever informed by Edina that they are relatives? Enjoyment: I thoroughly enjoyed the captivating historical suspense vibe of this book!~ First line: It's almost sunrise.~ Favorite line: This short life is wasted only when one does not use it for good.
