Unabridged Audiobook
Absolutely awful. Turow's first novel "Presumed Innocent" was a masterpiece; this, his second, is a ludicrously overwritten bore. I somehow endured eight hours and gave up upon consideration that my life is finite, and therefore are the number of books I will be able to enjoy. It's only the third book I've ever given up on, but this book breaks the Cardinal Rule of good storytelling with almost every line: "Show, don't tell!" Turow weaves around, U-turns back, digs under and climbs over action of any kind, at every opportunity, in favor of back story, memory, anecdote, platitude, or whatever else can suffocate the slightest hint of anything actually taking place now. Boring, tedious, frustrating, disappointing.
Another great book to the series. This book focuses on how Alejandro Stern personal life and family get tangled into a court case. It certainly has some seat gripping moments I loved and I think if you enjoyed the first book/others in the series, you’ll love this one as well.
