Summary
DIE HARD meets TALK RADIO in this heart-pounding, relentlessly fast-paced thriller from the New York Times bestselling author of The Fourth Monkey—master of suspense, J.D. Barker.
“I’m going to offer you a choice.”
Controversial satellite radio talk show host Jordan Briggs has clawed her way to the top of the broadcast world. She doesn’t hold back, doesn’t spare feelings, and has no trouble sharing what’s on her mind. Her rigorous pursuit of success has come at a price, though. Her marriage is in ruins, she hasn’t spoken to her mother in years, and she’s distanced herself from all those close to her. If not for her young daughter, Charlotte, her personal life would be in complete shambles.
When a subdued man calls into the show and asks to play a game, she sees it as nothing more than a way to kick-start the morning, breathe life into the beginnings of drive-time for her listeners. Against her producer’s advice, she agrees, and unwittingly opens a door to the past.
Live on the air with an audience of millions, what starts out as a game quickly turns deadly—events long thought buried resurface and Jordan Briggs is forced to reconcile with one simple fact—all decisions have consequences.
“A white-knuckled roller coaster ride! A Caller's Game is the best kind of thriller, careening from deadly shock to explosive awe without ever losing heart.”—Lisa Gardner, #1 New York Times Bestselling Author of Before She Disappeared

Good book. This is the second book I've read by Barker and I've enjoyed them both. The narrators (there are 2) were very good!

Thrilling read. Think Die Hard meets Jack Ryan with a taste of Seven. I’m sure there’s a better example of similar books, but I thought it was a very entertaining read. The male narrator had the same diction and cadence as Aaron Mahnke from Lore podcasts. Worth a ready for sure.

I thoroughly enjoy the book. Very intense throughout. Only criticism would be that the level of destruction was somewhat unbelievable.

I could not put this book down. It’s got to be made into a movie. I’ve recommended it to everyone. Edge of your seat action that keeps building!

I found the story a bit annoying at first, but I became invested in the characters very quickly. I liked this a lot. The author managed to change my mind about the bitc*y main character by the end.

Action packed and great twist, although I found the ending a bit flat

Both of the narrators are awesome and complement each other figuratively. The story is suspenseful and full of twists and turns with action. Why is this not a movie!!

I really didn’t enjoy this book at all because it was too hard to listen to…too much greed and self-centeredness, too much evil, arrogance. The only decent character was Cole, the detective. Jordan, the other main character, was a pitiful excuse for a human being. It was all too sad.

Meh…nearly stopped listening halfway through but since I paid for it I trudged on. Second half picked up. I felt like I was being drug along thinking the story was going to tell something but no another … wait for it.

Enjoyed the book. Good story. A few twists. Liked everything up to the authors post script. To politicize and give a speech on the scam our govt used to destroy our economic strength ruined a good book. I will not be getting any more from this author.

Had to quit listening due to Cole’s narration. Speech is very broken up and adds pauses where they don’t belong. Difficult to listen to.

Didn’t like the general story line.

Loved it. Couldn’t wait to start listening again when I had to stop. Will certainly look for more books by this author.

Very well written! Started off a bit annoying because you wanted to dislike the main character…which was the purpose. And then you delved deeper and got involved. The female narrator was excellent. She made it even more exciting. The male kept pausing which was a little annoying, especially as all characters that he read talked that way and sometimes made differentiation of characters a bit hard and it took away from the suspense. But became a fast paced, twisting book. Who do you trust? Who are the bad and good people and are they truly bad or good?

Both narrators were monotone, I couldn’t get into the reading from the very beginning. I tried to get to 3 chapters but I just couldn’t handle it. Not many listeners feel the same way, and that is okay but this is my opinion on the narrators, not the book itself. It felt like I was listening to robots. If I read the book, which I think I may end up buying it because the storyline is great but the narrators were not the greatest. I love listening to narrators who connect with the author and their character(s) they create, by putting emphasis on the storytelling. To me, it makes listening to a book feel like a movie or show is being played, without watching it. These narrators butchered it and was not very pleasing to hear.

Had a 10 hour drive from one side of Texas to the other. Started this book as I pulled out of my driveway and it ended when I was pulling into my hotel that evening. Was totally enthralled throughout! Loved the duel narrators and although the revel was early on, I couldn’t stop listening!!

The story line was suspenseful but superficial. The two-dimensional characters frequently do and say things that are entirely entithical; maybe for the convenience of moving the plot in a certain direction, but avoiding twists that might have been far more interesting and believable. Definitely "literary popcorn"; the author's term, not mine.

Wow! I was not expecting such a great story! The dynamic between caller Bernie and shock jock Jordan is engaging throughout the story. As the history of their relationship unfolds, layers of betrayal are exposed, and character flaws flushed out the tale becomes more riveting. I will definitely be looking for more titles from Barker.

This review is of my own personal opinion. I found the storyline to drag on and on., Giving way too many details that were not necessary for the story. Not to mention the narrators voices, the reader that portrayed Cole had such a gruff & grating voice that I had a difficult time listening. I stopped and started the audio numerous times....to finally give up somewhere in the 66 track of 88. Someone else may find this Audio great but I certainly did not.

I cannot believe this magnificent book was part of my VIP awards! It was incredibly “edge of your seat” wonderful! The “good guy/bad guy” roles were so confusing and I loved it! The twists and turns were wonderfully breathtaking! I was actually talking to the characters out loud! P. S.- The Author’s Note sounded like the beginning of a horror book which I feel like he should really expound on…LOL The narrators were great! They weren’t monotone or draggy. Loved their work!
