Summary
Master storyteller Padraic Colum's rich, musical voice captures all the magic and majesty of the Norse sagas in his retellings of the adventures of the gods and goddesses who lived in the Northern paradise of Asgard before the dawn of history. Here are the matchless tales of All-Father Odin, who crosses the Rainbow Bridge to walk among men in Midgard and sacrifices his right eye to drink from the Well of Wisdom; of Thor, whose mighty hammer defends Asgard; of Loki, whose mischievous cunning leads him to treachery against the gods; of giants, dragons, dwarfs and Valkyries; and of the terrible last battle that destroyed their world. For anyone who loves ancient myths, legends, and lore (like Greek, Roman, Egyptian), add Norse Mythology to your appetite. Amazing to hear about the exploits of Thor, Odin, Freya, Loki, and others whom I never cared enough for or even heard of. The stories and themes didn't seem relevant to today's world, but if you put yourself in the minds of the Vikings, it's a very fun listen. The narrator also did a great job. LibriVox has many other great authors, but Ms. Klett still did a good job with differentiating the male and female tones of the characters.

Elizabeth Klett, Allow me to express my deep gratitude for the time, preparation and effort you put into this reading. It was just fantastic, I was enraptured with every word, and the pace and emphasis just painted scene after scene effortlessly in my imagination! I so very much appreciated your reading of Padriac Colum's The Children of Odin. His retelling of these treasured ancient Norse myths are all of them absolute gems. But the life your breathed into them with every word spoken, made it so much better than reading it. Your voice, it was as if you were speaking them from memory, all these wonderful sagas, every time I tuned in, I was transported to the realms spoken of herein! Your reading of the tales, was so comfortably paced, and so fluidly delivered, all of it, down to even the accurate and smooth pronunciation of all the old Norse names, it was all so naturally spoken, I felt like when I sat still, I could image being told them by a Celtic or Druidic Seeress, weaving tales of the Gods and heros by the evening fire to those gathered round in viking halls on a cold night. Im not sure if you just wanted to procide this for the public or if you have ever considered doing this professionally, but please do! You're a natural! I think that with books in print, people forget or take for granted, that stories like this were originally passed down orally, because the power of the spoken word, when it comes to Great Myths such as these, really come to life when read aloud. Youve made a masterpiece, of a masterpiece. I would absolutely love to hear you do more of these timeless European Myths, if that is possible for you. But this one captured my heart!

This narrator and these stories are a steadfast and staple in my audio book collection. I often listen at bedtime. Unobtrusive and soothing reader. And it’s Entirely enjoyable at a dinner party to be able to tell the stories to know these names and so forth it’s a lot of fun! I mean one could easily potentially rub elbows with a great patriot such as perhaps Jovan Pulitzer and enjoy probably a wonderful conversation regarding the Norse gods and the children of oden due to this fab listen and read story ! As there would be no question in my mind that this giant and sword slinger undoubtedly has blood lines descending from these herein mentioned Norse gods LOL I saw the guys genealogy once it says he goes back to the Norse god Hytir! Mine does also... fascinating stuff for a bedtime story! Especially if it turned out to be true !! When you add to this viking tails by Jeannie Hall I’ll think It becomes even more fascinating and then listen to the story of the white woman of the Genesee when she tells about the ancient Greece of men who were civilized long before the Seneca settled on the Genesee River... Start putting some of the puzzle pieces together and these fairytales become well unusually matched... Good night and sweet dreams...
