Date: September 2007

Duration: 4 hours 55 minutes

Set amid the austere beauty of the North Carolina coast, Nicholas Sparks tells the story of Travis Parker, a small-town veterinarian who's perfectly content with the active and exciting life he leads. Since he uses his spare time bungee jumping and swimming with the dolphins, he can't shake the belief that a woman would simply slow him down. That is, until Gabby Holland enters his life. Gabby, Travis's new neighbor, is in love with her boyfriend of three years, and wants nothing more than to start planning the wedding she's always dreamed about. However, there is a story within a story and the connection between Travis and Gabby is just a beginning. As their tale unfolds, their relationship becomes something different--with much higher stakes. With echoes of THE NOTE BOOK abound, listeners everywhere will fall in love.

I thought it was a good summer book. It lacked some the character/storyline sophistication that most of the Sparks books hold. If you love the N.C. Coastline then I wouldn't pass this one up.

  • Erin Ewald

Fast listen the twist is too quick first half of the book is better than the second half. The woman voices are a bit much

  • Jana Robinson

Great beach read! The narration was good, though the female voices were a bit much. But overall great.

  • Tami Cieplinski

OK story. I enjoyed it for a long car trip, but if I had been reading the paperback it probably would have been hard to get through. Not my favorite Sparks book, but not bad either.

  • Mindy Balsdon

Fabulous ?? Story!!! Would recommend to anyone.

  • James Higbee

Dreadful book. Probably a good romance novel? Ladies? I loved "The Longest Ride" and thought this book would be good, but it was not. Broken up by flurries of inbred guitar/piano music straight out of "Deliverance." Hopefully it's a case of a script for an episode of "General Hospital" getting crossed in the mail with a respectable novel. The narrator certainly did portray the characters well, probably recorded it when he wasn't handing out orders to customers at the Jack in the Box drive-thru window.

Nicholas Sparks always is a great, easy read (or listen to)! This one was on the more predictable side of things. Even the twist at the end was a little forced. However, I liked it. The narrator was great and nice to listen to. ;)

  • Anita Murillo

I really enjoyed listening to The Choice while exercising. I have enjoyed all of Nicholas Sparks' books and movies.

  • Dawn Freiberg

Enjoyed this book. It made a long drive go by quickly.

  • Cindy Dunne

Another great Nicholas sparks novel. He never disappoints and this boo is no exception.
