Unabridged Audiobook
Choose Me is a fantastic romance with a slow burn between Jules and his brothers best friend, Erik. Of course, his brother, Stef, warns Erik away because at the time his family was going through extremely hard times and Jules's anxiety attacks were quite bad and frequent. Erik then has a work opportunity and so moves away but now he's back and the connection and attraction they share is still there. If anything, it's stronger than ever. Oh my heart. Jules is such an extraordinary man with how he fights through every day with his social anxiety and Erik is his perfect match in how he acknowledges and helps in any way that Jules needs. They are both the sweetest, wanting each other but not wanting to upset Stef. With Erik back in town, they see a lot more of each other and this time Erik is determined to see what can happen. I really enjoyed the build up of their romance, how they got back into spending time together and then take a chance on each other. One moment for each man I thought was special is when they stand up for the other, Jules with family and Erik with work. Erik's family are a lot better but still have problems after losing both of their parents as teenagers, while Jules has an understanding boss at work but a new one is coming in who needs to brush up on his HR and listening to his staff. I also liked the way that Jules's anxiety has been written. Nothing has been shied away from, in the moment and the aftermath of what happens. It's heartbreaking for him but also amazing in how he has learned and adapted to cope with it in his adult life. Accepting therapy and medication as useful tools but also the love and support of those around him. It's definitely not the same for everyone and is hard to experience/read in the moment but he has a great strength that is recognised by those who know and love him. I adored this romance. It's fairly low level angst, more worry about how Stef will take it than anything. I was a little surprised more wasn't made from that with all the build up but it also fits in with Stef's character, I think. Hopefully his story is coming soon. I received an ARC and am happily giving a review. **Audio** I think that this may be my favourite audiobook of the year so far. I loved reading this story and Gary just brings everything to another level, I didn't want to press pause. I felt right there with Jules whenever he was experiencing anxiety and with Eric as he balances his friendship with Stef and his growing need to be with and care for Jules.
