Summary
Beauregard Stone lives a life of solitude in the snow-blanketed town of Windeville, Maine. The burly lumberjack is a man of few words and even fewer smiles. He hasn't spoken much since his husband died eight years ago. Now, each day bleeds into the next as Stone loses himself in his woodshop and lumber-hauling business.

But when Royal Peterson, a burnt-out corporate finance executive from Manhattan, stumbles into Windeville, everything changes.

Stone isn't the kind of man who fawns over the strangers who wander into town, especially not ones who look like Royal. Stone's too rough around the edges, convinced he's too old, too grizzled, too broken for someone as young and gorgeous as Royal. But when he sees the same sadness in Royal's warm brown eyes that's reflected in his own, Stone's defenses begin to crumble.

As their paths continue to cross in unexpected ways, Stone and Royal start to realize healing and loving aren't always as complicated as they seem. But just as their bond begins to grow, Royal faces a difficult choice: does he stay in Windeville, or does he return to his fast-paced life, leaving Stone to face the cold, lonely winter nights once again?

Contains mature themes.

Perfectly winter read (during any season :P) Ryan's voice did this short story wonders. His smooth low tone matches Stone and Royal's character in my opinion. He had subtle changes in his narration when he changes in-between characters. The story itself is a wonderful winter Christmas story. Wasn't too quick on the insta-love but didn't drag it out either. I enjoyed getting to know the town and its people throughout the novel. Adrienne's descriptions always make you feel like you can literally picture this area in minds' eye. I like that its just enough description to set up your imagination. You can get the gist of the town, and people, yet still have some of your own imagination spin on it. This was my first book narrated by West and I would again. I would like to see what else he could narrate.

Stone and Royal's story was a cozy hurt/comfort romance set in the small town of Windeville. Royal was looking for a change of pace after his corporate life in Manhattan had burned him out, while Stone was nursing a broken heart from the death of his husband several years prior. Neither man was looking for love, but their meeting sparked unexpected feelings to life and set them both on a different path than they'd planned. I was charmed by both leads and the residents of Windeville, and I got invested in their preparations for Winterfest with ease. Royal and Stone had chemistry from their first interaction, and I really enjoyed watching them get to know each other better. Stone was guarded when it came to love and romance, and his fear of being left behind was a constant theme throughout the book. Even as he and Royal jumped into a steamy fling, I could tell he was hesitant to give away his heart again, and that fear was something he didn't overcome easily. Royal embraced small town living, hungry for real connections that living in the big city had never given him. I thought it was sweet how eager he was to support the townspeople after only a handful of days, and his contributions made a huge impact when the launch of Winterfest ran into unexpected issues. Royal and Stone were solid as romantic partners, but they fell into the classic trap of poor communication and sent each other into a tailspin towards the end of the book. I was worried that Stone would retreat fully into his former hermit self, but thankfully he and Royal were able to patch things up and solidify their relationship with the full support of the town behind them. **I voluntarily listened to a free copy of this book. This review expresses my honest thoughts and opinions.

Royal is fed up with the rat race and decides to move to small-town Windville. He really has no idea what he's getting himself into. Stone lost his husband eight years ago and has literally locked himself in and shut off his emotions in order to just survive. Well, he had no idea Royal would be the one to crack open the seal he had on his heart. These two men both have serious issues but together are able to help each other heal. Ryan West did an amazing job narrating and bringing these characters to life.

Cold Winter Nights is a small town romance, Royal Peterson is a burnt-out finance executive in Manhattan, after a Health scare He quit his job and decided to visit a small town in Maine. Beauregard “Stone” Stone is a widower who is still grieving his late husband, all he does is work in his woodshop and helps the people in his small town. Secluded from life and living much in his own terms after the loss of his husband, Stone has become somewhat of a hermit. When Royal makes drastic changes to his life and finds himself in the middle of the small town that his parents were so fond of, he becomes fascinated with the grumpy man. When friendship becomes something more, they both find in each other something neither expected to happen, a change at love and happiness. But, life poses challenges and they will have to make tough choices if they want to put the relationship they are building together and each other first. Ryan West does a fantastic job of bringing these characters and this small town to life. I was absolutely absorbed into his narration of this story.
