Jessica Peterson pens another winning novel and an amazing start to her new “Double U Ranch” series, which follows the Wallace family on the family ranch, and I am already in love with the family. This first book of the series is Colt Wallace and Lainey Brown’s story, a heartwarming single dad, grumpy/sunshine enemies to lovers romance that captivates your attention and tugs at your heartstrings throughout. Lainey, a city girl, not from Fort Worth, not Dallas, a marketing and branding expert, is hoping her business takes off because it is something she loves and feels passionate about. I loved all the layers of this story, and it all played out with the perfect balance of drama, angst, charming humor via witty dialogue, heartwarming moments, heartfelt emotions, and steamy romance. As always, the writing, plot, and world-building are fantastic, as are the character growth and development. Speaking of worlds, this series takes place in Hartsdale, the same town and world as “Lucky River Ranch,” and it was great to see characters from that series. Jessica Peterson, thank you for another fantastic and wonderfully entertaining story and emotional rollercoaster ride. And for the fabulous audiobook listen performed in duet by the superbly talented Vanessa Edwin and Aiden Snow, who delivered an exceptional performance, a true gem of a listen. Both embodied their characters completely, capturing all facets of their personalities, giving each a voice that was fitting, accents and all. They were outstanding in the lead roles, Lainey and Colt, as well as Dean, and equally brilliant as the side/secondary characters too. Their expressive delivery conveys all the characters’ emotions, making you feel each one, and they were naturals handling the back-and-forth banter and witty dialogue, landing the humor effortlessly. These two voice artists are entertaining, and their captivating performance has you hooked while taking this already fabulous story to another level.
