London, 1898. The age of the motor-car has dawned, and Wolf is determined to embrace it. When he acquires one of the new mechanical marvels and enters one of England’s first great motor-car runs from London to Brighton, Tabitha is less than enthusiastic — particularly as she has other reasons to proceed with caution.

At Wolf’s insistence, she travels by train with the dowager to await his arrival at the finish line. But what should have been a day of triumph soon turns to dread when tragedy strikes the course, and Wolf finds himself accused of a fellow driver’s death.



Refusing to stand idly by, Tabitha and the dowager embark upon their own investigation, uncovering rivalries, jealousies, and whispered scandals among the competitors. As if that wasn't enough, Tabitha has to endure Lady Arlene Archibald, a woman from Wolf’s past, whose reappearance threatens to complicate matters in every possible way.
