Summary
#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • Brené Brown has taught us what it means to dare greatly, rise strong, and brave the wilderness. Now, based on new research conducted with leaders, change makers, and culture shifters, she’s showing us how to put those ideas into practice so we can step up and lead.

Don’t miss the five-part Max docuseries Brené Brown: Atlas of the Heart!

ONE OF BLOOMBERG’S BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR

Leadership is not about titles, status, and wielding power. A leader is anyone who takes responsibility for recognizing the potential in people and ideas, and has the courage to develop that potential.

When we dare to lead, we don’t pretend to have the right answers; we stay curious and ask the right questions. We don’t see power as finite and hoard it; we know that power becomes infinite when we share it with others. We don’t avoid difficult conversations and situations; we lean into vulnerability when it’s necessary to do good work.

But daring leadership in a culture defined by scarcity, fear, and uncertainty requires skill-building around traits that are deeply and uniquely human. The irony is that we’re choosing not to invest in developing the hearts and minds of leaders at the exact same time as we’re scrambling to figure out what we have to offer that machines and AI can’t do better and faster. What can we do better? Empathy, connection, and courage, to start.

Four-time #1 New York Times bestselling author Brené Brown has spent the past two decades studying the emotions and experiences that give meaning to our lives, and the past seven years working with transformative leaders and teams spanning the globe. She found that leaders in organizations ranging from small entrepreneurial startups and family-owned businesses to nonprofits, civic organizations, and Fortune 50 companies all ask the same question:

How do you cultivate braver, more daring leaders, and how do you embed the value of courage in your culture?

In Dare to Lead, Brown uses research, stories, and examples to answer these questions in the no-BS style that millions of readers have come to expect and love.

Brown writes, “One of the most important findings of my career is that daring leadership is a collection of four skill sets that are 100 percent teachable, observable, and measurable. It’s learning and unlearning that requires brave work, tough conversations, and showing up with your whole heart. Easy? No. Because choosing courage over comfort is not always our default. Worth it? Always. We want to be brave with our lives and our work. It’s why we’re here.”

Whether you’ve read Daring Greatly and Rising Strong or you’re new to Brené Brown’s work, this book is for anyone who wants to step up and into brave leadership.

I didn’t like this book at all. Won’t finish it and returning it early. Why so much foul language???

This book is jam-packed full of really useful information. I am on my 3rd listen because there is so much, it's difficult to take it all in with a single pass. While reading/listening to this book, if you don't feel uncomfortable, then you are probabaly not being honest with yourself. I felt like Ms. Brown was calling me out on some things that I do that is not daring leadership. The content is great and the author's passion comes through in the reading. I highly recommend this book for anyone who is seeking to become a better leader.

great read for the modern day, it's not the same old advice for leaders, the new perspective is insightful and refreshing, as well as applicable in today's society.

Fascinating work! There is a lot of information and am currently re-listening to it because you cannot take it in all at once. I found it not only helpful for my professional world but my personal interactions as well. This book is making me think about reading some of her previous works. She adds her own experiences which was at times too much information BUT it is nice to know that no one has it all perfected. PEOPLE, PEOPLE,PEOPLE

I like the contents but the narrator sounds bit aggressive. Her voice may motivate for some people but it is tiring for me. I want to listen more but I paused every time because I feel exhausted after 10/20mins.

I'm an avid reader of BB and did not expect to love this book as much as I did. She really ties in all of the highlights of her work into one book, while serving it up through a lens of the workplace and leadership. Also, it definitely made it more engaging getting to hear her voice reading it... love her sm.

Hard to listen to, because she talks a lot about her own experience a lot and I don’t relate to any of it. Seems like she has a lot of problems :) It’s a pleasure to hear the narration tho. Very good diction and clear voice.

The best of the best for Brene Brown including scholarly references to multiple other researchers that support her findings, too! Lifetime change is possible within one’s self and associated groups. This book does have the keys for true community transformation creating a beautiful social revolution. Thank you to Brene Brown for her curiosity and willingness to rumble.

This book had some helpful and practical information. However, some things shared did not have data to be backed up and came off as rude statements or opinions. She did not share how to receive vulnerability, only how to use it yourself. There were also too many examples for my liking.
