Unabridged Audiobook
Love it
This is an excellent second part to his trilogy regarding WWII. Written from known facts and selections from diverse diaries, he writes an accurate history which does not whitewash any historical character.
I have found that often the narrator in audiobooks is forgotten, so I will praise him first.Mr Davis is perfect in the role of narrating "The Last Day of Battle".Mr Davis' voice is calm and quiet, loud and excited, subdued and thoughtful as the story requires. He is an excellent narrator."The Last Day of Battle" by Mr Atkinson is an exquisite amalgamation of historical facts with a spattering of "if I were in your shoes" mentality. As with his book, "An Army at Dawn", he manages to bring to life often forgotten or minimized campaigns of WW2. He is insightful and aware of the thousands of untold stories of fallen men and women. As a lowly veteran and a history buff, I highly recommend this book for the insights it gives into not only the tactics and strategy, but also into the minds of soldiers, sailors, and airmen from the lowest to highest ranks.
This second book in the Trilogy is just as good and insightful as book 1. Can't wait to get to book 3. He does not whitewash history here. This is the brutality of war. Highly recommend! I like this narrator better than the first one. The first one tried to do a British accent and it was terrible.
