Unabridged Audiobook
Good read. Very interesting
Interesting story though the narration does tend to make you drift off as its very monotone and robotic like. It was an interesting period of time and I wanted to hear it from the average person moving across America. Not a top of the list but no means the bottom.
I was born in Northwest Kansas, and my relatives were homesteaders in that area. My mother’s family from Sweden and my father is from the Pennsylvania Dutch. I have always had an interest in the old West and especially the period of time this book encapsulates. When I was young, I collected Barbwire and still have the collection. I felt the book was very realistic and appreciated the Christian tone of the authors writing.
What a treasure to hear this first hand account and realize that my own ancestors may have had "automatic" butter churning, too. I've listened to another book, My Mother and I, by the same narrator where the well enunciated words seem dry, and a bit boring; but she has added some inflection here and by then end I was enjoying her read.
Excellent diary, very clearly read…makes history “come alive.”
