Dead Reckoning

Former covert operative Rael Voss arrives at Tarsis Station expecting a routine classified audit of minor gate anomalies. Instead she finds an impossible authorization code buried inside the transit network’s records, a dead department that still has the power to act, and evidence that the system is making decisions no one in authority understands.

As delays spread across Tarsis’s cluster of faster-than-light gates, Voss uncovers a buried pattern of suppressed investigations, unexplained deaths, and a sealed emergency command post abandoned for two centuries. The one man assigned to help her, senior Transit Authority analyst Caden Rhys, knows more than he should and may be steering the crisis toward catastrophe.

Because the danger is larger than corruption or bureaucratic failure. The ancient gate network humanity depends on is running a test, and the people responsible for it are already failing.

If Voss cannot uncover the truth and seize control before the window closes, eleven worlds will be isolated, ships in transit will die by the thousands, and civilization will learn too late that its most dangerous enemy was the system it trusted to carry it.
