Unabridged Audiobook
Had to read this book for class, was very interesting and loved the narration! 10/10
Great book! I really enjoyed this!
The Roots of a tree run deep.. Dear Haiti, Love Alaine is a story of how your family's roots run per say. History is a compass if only you can read it, Alaine is used throughout the story to read in between the lines and to find out her family truths. Although, she grew up living a different life than "her family" back in Haiti, she craved to see how her well known mother's life was growing up. Some of my favorite quotes of the book were: "I've seen the mountain top but prefer the valley", "I didn't know what to expect with the freeze out but I'm thawing now", and "You'll believe anything when you're broken", they are so relatable and real. I highly recommend this book, it talks about being from a broken home, family secrets, things under the rug that's brought to life, voodoo, loss, love and finding out your famous mother now has alzheimers. It's one hell of a rollercoaster but I'm glad this is my first read of 2020. I Didn't complete my goal of 60 books last year, hopefully I'll surpass that this year. #book1of2020 #bookworm #whatsnext
Loved it! This is a tale of human nature, where nothing is quite what it seems. Alaine is a smart, witty MC who must come to terms with complicated family dynamics (including a heavy dose of drama!) and a life that will never be the same. Steeped in rich Haitian culture and history, family curses, character growth, a charity start-up, and commentary on privilege and sometimes problematic foreign aid, this was truly a literary treat! Another amazing Bahni Turpin narration performance!
