Unabridged Audiobook
This was a great story that kept me going throughout the whole thing. I am glad I had this on audio, burnt onto CDs I could use in the car - if I had it in paperback, I would have lost sleep because this would have been one I could not put down. It made me look forward to my next drive! Lots of action and intrigue. It would make a good movie, but we all know the book is always better, right? ;)
Only words to describe GREAT
I have had to stop the book in the first 30 minutes because the narrators salivating is absolutely out of control. I have never once heard a narrator so awful and skin crawling in my life. He would be fine if someone had done their job in sound isolation but this is absolutely unbearable
I thought the story moved along at a good pace. Some things were pretty predictable--convenient rescues, etc. I basically knew who would die, who would live, who were the bad guys, etc., but there were definitely some surprises. It was a lot of fun, and I applaud the research that must have been done before writing this book. I also felt the reader was only so-so. As I listened in my car, I heard the reader swallowing or breathing or something. It was creepy. But I did enjoy the plot.
This was a very good book. Lots of twists and turns. Very refreshing to not have an idea how the author is going to end the book. Well worth the time to listen!
Great book! Lots of twists make for an easy and engaging listen.
Story is 5 stars. Reader is 1 Star. This was a great story. The downside to this is the reader. The reader can be heard licking his lips alot and lots of heavy breathing. Very annoying especially if you listen with headphones.
I was hesitant to get this book due to some of the lukewarm reviews that it received. But I am a fan of Dan Brown and decided to give it a try anyway. I was not disappointed. The ending had a twist that I wasn't expecting - I thought I had it figured out, but was wrong and surprised.
This book didn't do much for me. I was glad when I was finally finished listening.
If you’re wearing headphones while listening to this book be forewarned that Richard Poe makes a lot of wet mouth noises while reading. It’s like he’s literally drooling over this book.
Great story but had to read it narrator is bad.
Super book!! Listened to it on our 2000 mile drive across the US. Kept us alert (but not distracted) on the road because it was so interesting!
Good read, interesting facts intertwined. A bit slow in the beginning but worth the wait for an exciting ending. Character development is lacking. Extremely detailed descriptions. Overall would recommend.
The plot concept is good. But the book could have accomplished it's purpose better in 2/3rds the time -- minus some of the geological details and plot twists. The reader was expressive. But I didn't fashion hearing him constantly swallowing in my ear.
Not my fav DB novel. Too much shooting action bs that I hate in movies and certainly in books. Too many implausible scenarios. The thing I enjoy about DB is facts and locations, even art woven into the repetitive story line (makes it with the repeated basics ). This one was amatuerish ...and like he was struggling to bring it to a conclusion. The last chapter esp. Sorry Dan. Just being honest.
Story was incredible. Kept me listening the whole time. Narrator was ok but there were silences in many areas of the audio.
This was a great book, intriguing story line with many plot twists! The narrator was ok but there were strange long pauses between chapters and the narrator made weird noises with his mouth that distracted from the book. I wished the same narrator that had done Dan Brown's other books would have also done this one.
One of Dan Browns best have read or listened too it 5 times.
Great narrator.One of the best.If not the best.Book a 5 Star!!!!!!!!!!!
Very enjoyable book. Narrator did a very good job.
Another of Dan Brown's compelling tales! Never stale or on the boring end.
Another good one from Mr. Brown. One just never know what's truth or what's fiction in his story. Mr. Poe is that Nassau or NASA...I still love that voice of your's and this narration.
This book kept me at the edge of my seat the whole time!
This would of been a good read if it was about 13 hours shorter.
Sorry, I found the premise of the discovery to be ridiculous. When it got to the point of suggesting that the earth had been seeded by extra terrestrials because of the similarity of what was 'discovered' with what existed on earth I couldn't take it any more. I know it was all a hoax but couldn't bring myself to listen to another 13 CDs to have that fact revealed.
The ending was a few chapters too long. Not a bad read, but slightly drawn out. Worth the listen.
I thought this book was very good it Kept my attention all the way through, I have enjoyed all the books that Dan Brown has written and although I don't enjoy some of the more descriptive parts where people are murdered etc, I enjoy the way he never lets the reader know the end of the story till the very end. I think its an excellent book thank you Dan Brown.
This book was fantastic! It kept me interested the entire time, I loved the science and science fiction, the characters were great, and i even liked the ending! This was my favorite Dan Brown.
I've read Angels and Demons by Dan Brown and thought this is going to be same puzzle and action packed book. Unfortunately I stopped on disk 7 and sent it back. During all 7 CDs it felt like this was a short essay with tons of water. Very straight forward and very predictable. Might be there is something more in the end of the book but I could not push myself father down the book. I was half way done with it and still could not find it appealing.
Excellent book. Very exciting and engrossing throughout. A thriller through and through. Makes me want to listen to other Dan Brown books. Highly recommended.
"Deception Point" is one of the best audio books I've had. It kept my interest from start to finish and was full of suspense and intrigue. I enjoyed it very much and would recommend it to others.
Dan Brown has the unique ability to develop a story line and its characters ... even though the story line takes ample liberty with the believable. The story contained a few too many fatalities but all in all, it was entertaining. The main contribution to this good listening experience was the narrator's ability to bring the personalities of the characters to life by his masterful use of voice inflexions. I could make wonderful mental pictures of the characters, and at times, I laughed out loud when several of the characters made their friendly jousts with each other's personalities and quirks. In summary, if you like Dan Brown, you will not be disappointed in this narration.
I felt like I was part of this amazing adventure! There was'nt any way you could figure out what Dan Brown was going to have his characters doing next! It kept my interest thru out.
Really entertaining Dan Brown novel. Expect all the twists and turns. It is amazing how Dan Brown produced all this and it took forever for him to get recognized.
Fast moving, keeps you guessing almost to the end. I give it a B+ in the techno thriller genre.
Outstanding book. I spend half my life in my car and this book made it difficult to leave the car when I had to. I disliked having to wait until the next time I got into the car because I couldn't wait to hear what came next. This is a must listen!!
By Chapter 11 nothing had happened yet. All we knew was that NASA had made some big discovery, but he was sure taking his time letting us know what. I was so frustrated (and bored) I chose to do my commute in silence,
I love Dan Brown's works. He is a marvelous fiction genious. Previously I had only listened/read the books with Robert Langdon, but this book took me on an adventure just as exciting as any Robert Langdon adventure. Definately a must read and listen to.
This was my favorite of all the Dan Brown novels. I loved Angels and Demons, and Da Vinci code and thought Digital fortress was a decent read, but This one was fantastic. A definite read.
Not my most favorite by Dan Brown, as I loved Davinci Code a lot. But it was still pretty good.
This may be the worst book I have ever read. Two-dimensional characters, absurd plot, poor writing. I read and enjoyed both "Angels & Demons" and "The DaVinci Code" and cannot more strongly suggest that you spare yourself the experience of sitting through this novel.
Though this was a very long listen, got to the point where I would sit in my car to listen, even when I had arrived at my destination. Very intrigueing, lots of detail on scientifice info, but not too much, so that I felt it was over my head. I loved it!!!
I enjoyed this book a lot--but then I have a particular taste for any book about the Arctic or Antarctic (don't know why but I do). It's an exciting cliff-hanger and I especially liked the justice wreaked upon "the villain" senator at the end. Dan Brown, keep 'em comin'!!
I must agree with the rating and comments given by Ho Hum. Yes, it is true, your attention can wander and you don't miss a thing. And, I agree it started out really, really good. It had my full attention and I was excited to listen to the developments. But then it got really really long winded and unnecessarily descriptive. Then it took off and got my attention again but the conclusions were not credible and I was disappointed.
Fabulous. Just fabulous. I kept hoping my daily commute to work would take longer so that I could continue to listen. Being a woman, I especially appreciate the strong female lead in the story. Highly recommend it.
This book was TERRIBLE!!! I only made it to disc 3 before I sent it back. I couldn’t take it anymore. It was boring. I’m not sure I was listening to the same book the other people on here rated but I sure don’t think so. And to think there were only 8 more discs to listen to.
I thought this book was very good, a little long but lots of detail and action.
This book is very well read - the narrator does a good job of keeping you interested in the story, and I will look for his name again when choosing an audio book. Too bad the story itself is not all that interesting. It starts of really well, with beautiful people caught up in extraordinary events: political intrigue, amazing scientific discoveries - great stuff! I am not a scientist, but Dan Brown seems to have done a lot of research to make the scientific background to this story believable. However, about one third of the way through, the storyline line deviates from thrilling mystery to absurd tall tale. It's as though Mr. Brown suddenly lost interest in developing the plot, and went straight for cheap thrills just to make sure he wrote a sufficient amount of pages to keep his publisher happy. I would recommend this book to anyone who has something else to do during the second half of the book. If you miss a few words here and there it won't be a big loss.
I really enjoyed listening to this book. The suspense has great timing. I found myself thinking about the story a lot. Good job to the Author and Narrator!
I Loved it. I Couldn't wait to drive my car to listen to it!
This is quite a thriller from start to finish. While it follows Dan Brown's formula of unlikely hero becoming involved in a major and dangerous coverup, it nevertheless makes for good listening. I recommend the abridged version if you are not into details.
Audio books allow me to get the much needed entertainment that I need in my busy life without taking time away from the things I need to do. This book provides me with an excellent thrilling story. It’s a high paced book with intrigue. It is well written and well read. I recommend it for anyone to enjoy being entertained and listening to a good story.
A little far fetched but a great beach or snowy day book.
The end of Deception Point is quite good. While some of the details are a bit fantastical, is that not the point of books? The end is well written, for the most part, display only small sections of questionable writing (the very end seduction part, for example). The very end also is a dead ringer for the end of the DaVinci Code. They seem prone to end with sex between two people not the least bit attracted to one another, until the occurance of a catastrophic event, of course.
This book is long and detailed but worth it in the end.
I've read Dan Brown's other books & haven't been disappointed by one yet. Deception Point fits right in with the others. It was well written with just the right amount of suspense. In true Dan Brown fashion, this book includes the non-stop action & the twists & turns you'd expect. Being familiar with his style, I found the ending to be a bit predictable, but I still loved the book. I enjoyed the narrator’s reading style as well.
Absolutely wonderful! This was a really great read full of everything you could want in a thriller. I would highly recommend this book for anyone.
I loved, loved, loved, it. Dan Brown knows how to write.
It really is a GOOD read. It is just to long. The twists and turns of the heroine are just too prolonged, she need to be wonderwoman to survive the last two plot deviations. I like Brown, so this was not bad for me. If you can't handle melodramatic plots, stay away.
I was positively enthralled throughout this book. As far as I'm concerned, it was better than Da Vinci code or any other Dan Brown work. Perhaps because an underlying theme was sci-fi based, it appealed to me more than religious themes... I would've given it 5/5 but it could have been even better, but not by much. If you like thrillers, this one's right up there.
Excellent book with so many plot twists that it is impossible to guess the ending. I just couldn't help but wonder how much of this type of deception really happens in the world around us!
Tehre aren't many books that I've given a five stars too, but this one is worth it. I listened to the unabridged version and I never wanted to get out of my car. I loved traffic jams!! This story kept me absolutley riveted and I love this narrator. He's been in many of the audiobooks I've gotten and he is very enjoyable. I highly recommend this book!
The unabridged version is great. Kept me on the edge of my seat and totally unseated me with the surprise twists!
Wonderful book! Unabridged version made for very interesting listening. Extremely entertaining and well worth listening to.
The abridged version was missing a lot of the details and there was no character development. The actual meteorite section was so short you had absolutely no feel for the "great discovery".
Great story! As of this book, I've read all of Dan Brown's works. Definitely an author to watch. The narrator was annoying though. He definitely has a problem with ptyalism. Many times I was begging the guy to swallow, and other times I was agitated that he was audibly swallowing so often.
was a great book. Kept you thinking. always something new happening. reader was clear easy to understand.
As I would expect, twists and turns.... Entertaining worth listening to.
The pace of the story was very good - keeping me wanting more. Narrarator was well chosen for the plot subject. Storyline was engaging.
Very enjoyable. Probably would have given it a 5, but the subject matter is not my absolute favorite. I preferred DaVinci Code.
Very good. Made me stay in the car at times, waiting for the next words.
Good read, but not Dan Brown's best. After reading angels and demons, it wasn't as good, although gripping at times....it did catch me on the edge of my seat, especially at the end.
It was a good book that keeps you guessing, the reader was great once I got past thinking he was Robert Langdon. A good listen overall with interesting detail.
Not Dan Brown's best work by any stretch, but then again I may be expecting too much after having read The Davinci Code and Angels and Demons. It was an ok read with a good narrator, just not up to the standard I've come to expect from Mr. Brown.
Very enjoyable and entertaining, I enjoyed the rides to the office when I was listening to it. The plot is not really believable, but fun never the less.
I have read Angels and Demons and DiVinci Code. I wasn't so sure about this book at first but it won me over within the first few minutes. Dan Brown is a wonderful writer and the reader does the book justice.
This book was enjoyable to listen too, however, I thought that it was slow to start, too far-fetched in the middle, but had a good ending and an interesting message. Also, I think a different title would have left me guessing a bit more.
Wow, what a story. Granted some of the science was perhaps too fictional (or was it?) and it wrapped up neatly at the end, but this book was exciting and captivating just a good audiobook should be. I really loved it, it played like a movie. Very entertaining.
I thought this was one of Dan Brown's best works. I never really knew where the story was going or where it would end up. Enjoyed!
Another thrilling story from Dan Brown. The action again takes place in a 24 hour period, and one adventure follows another in breathless fashion. The characters move beyond cardboard but only slightly. That doesn't matter since the plot is king, and it does keep pulling you along to listen to just a bit more. Enough scientific information to keep it interesting and thought provoking. What if...nah, couldn't be, could it?
Lacking in story development compared to DaVinci Code or Angels and Demons. The plot was too predictable. No surprises here.
Dan Brown has quickly become one of my favorite authors. Although this one is not on the same path as his first two, it had me sitting in the drive way waiting to see if Michael and Rachel would escape one close call after another. Makes me wonder did we ever land on the moon!! hummm.
Somewhat different from his other two books. Less focus on religion and the arts. Instead, Brown put in a ton of time researching NASA and the science behind meteors. Book was a little hard to believe at times and the escapes were a little too convenient at times. But, all in all, it was a very good "read."
Several times I was sure of the ending, but a few twists changed the outcome. I enjoy Dan Brown's novels and believe this was another best seller.
I really enjoyed this book. I liked the characters and the suspense and action kept me sitting in my car not wanting to go into the house. You care about the characters and the twists and turns are unexpected ... I really LOVE that! I would definately reccommend this book.
I have fast become a Dan Brown fanatic! His books are always making me think. I can't wait to see what happens next. I find myself staying in my car to listen for more intrigue, clues, and suspense! Just when you think it's over it's not - more excitement on every disk!!!
Don't get me wrong. I did enjoy this book and I will read his other books as well. But you might say this was just like The Da Vinci Code, minus religion and replace it with NASA. What I did NOT like was the reader. He makes these spity, mouthy noises that just drove me nuts. Like nails on a chalkboard. Yuck!
Excellent book!!! May actually top my all time best list! Well researched and brilliantly put together. Recommended reading for anyone who wants more from a book! This will make you sit on the edge of your seat and challenge your intellect as well! Well done Mr. Brown! This exceeds The Davinci Code in every way!
I really enjoyed this book. There were a lot of twists that keeps you interested throughout the book.
Very well written and very effectively narrated. Fast paced thriller...could not wait for my next set of disks to arrive. Dan Brown hit a home run with this one.
Interesting idea, well researched, and kept me listening. Became a bit unbelievable in parts towards the end, but generally held my interest. .
This thrilling adventure is my favorite of all the Dan Brown books. The author's attention to detail and scientific realism, although not perfect, sparks the readers' interest to develop a new understanding of astro-biology and geology. The story is filled with suspense, political intrigue, several near death experiences, and surprise developments. As all of Brown's books, the entire story covers less than 48 hours in the characters' lives. To imagine this much happening in such a short time frame is a little hard to swallow, but the continuing urgency of the situation makes the story that much more compelling. Definitely hard to stop listening! Highly recommended!
Overall I enjoyed deception point. However, I found the readers voice to be very boring after about the thrid cd.
Excellent fictional adventure. I couldn't wait to hear what would happen next. I enjoy Brown's character twists he inserts in his books and his mixture of fact and fiction; he's very creative.
The plot and details were intelligently written but too far fetched.
It had a lot of suspense. It was classic Dan Brown style telling to two different sides of the story that meet in the middle. I listened to it in almost one sitting. Couldn't stop.
This book was excellent! The reader had a wide variety of voices to add depth to the dialogue. The action was fast-paced, suspenseful. The story line was very interesting. Could not stop listening to it!
Great suspense thriller. If you like TV shows like 24 then you'll love this book. Many twists and turns along with unexpected outcomes. There was not a moment that I wasn't riveted to this story. I'm looking for more from Dan Brown
This was an interesting story. Some of it was predicatable but it was a fun read. It is worth reading.
This was the first Novel that I listened to on Audio, and I was spoiled. The story was excellent, great twists great fiction. Outstanding & likeable (or purposely unlikeable characters). I was hoping for a more interesting relationship between the main character & his association with his parents, but it was fleeting & kind of unnecessary. If you like the genre this stands out, I would go out to the car during my lunch break just to hear more.
Mildly interesting. A little far fetched.....or maybe not? Quick listen.
Was very interesting and intriging and was a very good listen. At times a little far fetched, but then again the hero and heroine never die.
Dan Brown seems to be hit or miss lately. This book was very interesting, suspenseful and would have been a real page turner in book-form. There was plenty of action and suspense to keep it interesting.
Pretty suspensful though not as good as other Dan Brown novels.
