Summary
On the morning of March 4th, 1818, two men leading mules burdened with over five hundred pounds of rope entered a Tennessee cave. Only one man would leave that dark place....... screaming of death, demons and the Devil's Abyss.

When I bought a Tennessee farm house a few years ago i never counted on finding a tin box stuffed with a moldering old manuscript and detailed maps. Almost two hundred years old, it detailed a bizarre series of events that led to the death of one man and the ruin of another, a man by the name of Aaron Higgenbotham.

I'm not afraid to die and I don't believe in demons, but I love a mystery. So I used Higgenbotham's maps and found his cave. I climbed down into the Devil's Abyss and discovered a truth more terrible than any demons from imaginary hell.

This story, a sweet slice of what feels like "factual history" quickly plops you back into the early 19th century backwoods country of Tennessee. Here, the author paints a convincing portrait of the times through the colourfully, rich dialogues of the characters and his ability to capture the voice and dialect of the rugged American South. With the blending of fact and fiction, I think this story takes an unexpected spin on the life of Higgenbotham. A captivating read/listen for anyone interested in traversing down a dark bottomless pit. Expect the Unexpected!
