Summary
As dawn breaks on a snowy February morning, a refrigerated lorry is found parked in the heart of London's Chinatown. Inside twelve women, apparently illegal immigrants, are dead from hypothermia. But in the cab, DC Max Wolfe finds thirteen passports. Twelve dead women. Thirteen passports. The hunt for the missing woman will take Max Wolfe into the dark heart of the world of human smuggling, mass migration and 21st century slave markets.

What listeners say
The audiobook receives positive feedback for its engaging storyline and strong character development. Listeners appreciate the narration and find the plot twists compelling. However, some express difficulty in accessing the full series and note issues with certain vocal performances. Overall, it is considered a solid entry in the series, with room for improvement in specific areas.

For a VIP selection it wasn’t bad. Didn’t realize til after I selected it was the 4th in a series. Good but not interesting enough to get the others. Liked the English narrator. Have the book more character. He was good.

Another great story from Tony Parsons. Characterisation is very good & I love Max & his little family (Scout & Stan the dog), Edie Wren & the seargent at the Black Museum. There are plenty of twists & turns as usual & I learn a bit more about London, old villains, the law & more each book. Colin Mace is an amazing narrator, his range of voices seems unending & I often forget there is only one narrator. At time of writing there are 7 books & this is number4 so I hope by the time I reach book 7 there will be more Max Wolfe books available.

Nice to have a protagonist who isn’t a jerk. Family connection a leavening touch. Narrator splendid.

I found this really difficult to get into and I didn’t like the accents the narrator uses. I would prefer he just read the book. It was weird hearing a grown man try to voice a six year old girl!

This is the second book that I have listened to in this series of six, and I really like Detective Wolf! This was a great story based on a real situation in human trafficking! Colin Mace is a great narrator! Martin
