Summary
The bestselling novel featuring the “wonderfully epic hero” (People) who inspired the hit film Jack Reacher.

Jack Reacher is an innocent bystander when he witnesses a woman being kidnapped off a Chicago street in broad daylight. In the wrong place at the wrong time, he’s kidnapped with her. Chained together, locked in the back of a stifling van, and racing across America to an unknown destination for an unknown purpose, they’re at the mercy of a group of men demanding an impossible ransom. Because this mysterious woman is worth more than Reacher ever suspected. Now he has to save them both—from the inside out—or die trying.

I had a hard time turning it off. The narrator took a bit to get used to. The 'he said' and 'she said' was annoying. With the different voices you can tell who is talking, but maybe that's an audio book thing. I finally decided it was amusing.

I've read a few Reacher books now and this was probably my least favorite. Narrator was ok but no Dick Hill for sure.

This was the second Reacher book in chronological order. Although it was similar to other Reacher books, I liked it less than all others. The narrator was okay, but he is no Dick Hill!

This was my first Lee Child book. I enjoyed the Reacher movies and decided to see how a book went. Usually books are better than the movie. Unfortunately, the hero’s first real act threw me off and once I stopped struggling to take things seriously the book never disappointed. The narrator tried a bit too hard to alter his voice for each character and ended up on the thick end of ridiculous. I found his tone was often inappropriate for the current situation. He was also deeply hampered by the writing style. Way too many “he saids”. I should thank Mr.Child for breathing new life into my interest in the Nick Stone series. Now there’s a hero who knows what he’s doing.

I have to disagree with the other comments; this was not nearly as good as the other Reacher novels. I found many times I was thinking the whole situation was a bit ridiculous and at times trying to be an erotic novel. Seriously, having sex after you just bury a rotting corpse of a guy who was tortured to death??? I actually liked the narrator, I thought he did the voices really well.

Great story. But this guy sure seems to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

This audiobook did not disappoint. It is the usual fast pace action and suspense we have come to expect from a Jack Reacher novel. In this book he saves a kidnapped young woman who is an FBI agent and helps take down some really strange militia group with their sadistic leader. Jack is his usual super-hero self and saves the day and girl with little outside help. The ending let me down a bit. Reacher saves the girl and prevents a major crisis with a militia group and a political crisis. As a thank you he gets dumped by the highway, injured, with torn and dirty clothes, no money and no breakfast. Thank you Uncle Sam. Also Dick Hill is a better Jack Reacher narrator.

lee child is starting to refine reachers character in this second book. he also was able to incorporate his developing character with a very good story and the cast of characters which were narrated with great sense of detail. don't miss out on a great series of books, child has made reacher one of the best.

Like all books in this series, "Die Trying" is a compelling page turner. Well-written, fast-paced, intelligent and intriguing. Highly recommended.
